Kindle for Android released

I downloaded it but haven't gotten any books yet. Might try a free book to see how I like it. Most likely not going to buy any books as reading on such a small screen for long periods of time sucks.

Was thinking about picking up a kindle for my upcoming plane trip, but now I don't have to.

Now just to decide which book to purchase first.

There's tons of free books on the Kindle store. I've been browsing through those for a while. What is cool is as you add books to your collection, it begins to have really good suggestions for new books based on what your library looks like. Very cool.

Interesting, but I do not want to read on 3-4in screen. Not to mention, keeping the screen on will utterly decimate your matter life.

I am, however, interested in seeing if this app can be ported to run on rooted nooks. Best of both worlds then, you drop 150 dollars for the nook WiFi, root it, and gain access to books from both Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Epic win all around.

I found out the hard way it only works on android 1.6 🙁

I believe its Android 1.6 and up, not only 1.6. That'd be pretty stupid of Amazon.

I got the app loaded in CM508, Eclair based, and I'm looking for a free book to test it with.

Edit - Books download and sync okay, but I get a horribly garbled fonts, half wingdings and have squares.

I'm not worried about battery life too much. Under battery usage Display is always at the bottom on my DInc. AMOLED uses far less battery than the LCD did on the Droid I used previously.
