I agree with most, if you're not entrenched in Amazons services, the HDX isn't worth it. That being said, I am entrenched with Amazon, so I have a 7" HDX. It was rooted prior to the last update and I had no stability issues at all. The process was pretty simple. But unfortunately, the android firewall I had installed to block the auto updates was off and once the update came through, root broke.

I only rooted it so I can install Google Play and use my paid apps. Not planning on paying twice for the same apps. Good thing is that the paid apps I had already installed prior to root breaking still works.
