"Bifurcating" kids based on some kind of IQ test at age 12 is stupid and really amounts to a kind of segregation.

You can simply allow the children to choose as well. That's what we do in Ontario high schools. There are two tracks starting in grade 9 (advanced and applied), and in grade 11 the advanced track splits into university prep and college prep.

Students and parents make the choice.

Taken in a certain way, sure. But remember, the school is going into damage control mode. And they're getting their info from whoever overheard it. Basically not much they say can be accepted as accurate at this point, just propoganda.

Well, obviously, Yes. But I'm talking about the statements from the District. Granted, chances are good that they're of the same political leaning, however what Districts are most concerned about are the Districts themselves (not in the collective, the singular). Basically they're operating in CYA mode based on info from who knows who. Everything they say should be taken with a huge helping of salt.

you can generalize if you want, that's fine. Schools are as politically charged as any other area.

IMXP, people, regardless of political affiliation, are prone to dishonesty when it suits their needs.

it is has never been declining. It is about where it always has been, when compared to accepted world-wide metrics for measuring education. Many of these are memory/concept dependent metrics.

The USA has a history of molding creative problem solvers, critical thinkers, and leaders. I'd rather that than "higher ranking" models that simply create cubical monkeys. (all of Asia).

The only system that we should envy, really, are the Scandinavian models.
