It's more of a Japanese phenomenon. Do you see that in China, Korea, SE Asia, Philipine, Malaysia, or the Pacific Islands?

From my experience asian culture from a deeply Buddhist background tend to be quite conservative. Sex is one of those topic you never discuss with family. Outside of marriage, sex is a no no. Kids are to concentrate on school because they shouldn't have any unnecessary distraction. Asian culture tend to be more family-centric, so it is not uncommon to see someone in their 20s living with their parents (and still living under parental rules). I bet if we do a survey comparing sexual behavior of different ethnicities you'll find that asians have sex at a later age than any other group. Maybe there is argument for asian(particularly male) sexually mature slower than other groups.

Of course, prolong exposure to American culture will change all this. Particularly now, where sex is pushed hard in the media to produce high ratings and sell products. The TV trend move from the family-centric sitcoms to the so-called 'reality' TV. I have mentioned this before. Can anyone tell me one good role model in any of these 'reality' TV? At least in the fictional and idealistic sitcoms, everyday life situations are portrayed and there is a moral ending to each one. I hate to say this, but kids do learn from TV.

When I grew up, interest in sex came when I entered high school (late bloomer). For most of my classmates, it was middle school. Of course interest in girls happen back in elementary, but you never think pass kissing or touching. Even though I learned about sex when I was 8 (catching a young couple doing it), I thought it was disgusting. My interest was riding bikes, skateboard, baseball, swimming, and etc. Sex was the last thing on my mind. I thought it was pretty common among kids, to be happy with just being kids.

When I hear about kids having sex as early as 5 or 6, it baffles me. Some of you here may say it is perfectly natural or its a cultural thing, but sorry I don't see that as being typical of American culture. I immediately think of the unfortunate side-effect of child molestation or prolonged exposure to sexual material (like that kid in Taiwan). The later is quite believable considering what we see in magazines, billboards, TV, and the Internet. Poor parenting in combination with an oversexed media blitz can produce abnormal behavior in kids.

Japanese only?!?!?

Hmmm last I checked there were a few ports of call in many ASIAN countries that american soldiers love since the women are so easy to get as a soldier whether for free or for a little money.

He seems to be mainly talking about chinese/taiwanese culture, and he's very accurate in that regard.

Those half ass asian countries like vietnam and thailand don't count. :p They were actually pretty heavily corrupted by the presence of US military bases. The whoring out of those countries didn't exist before the US military set up bases around there.

weird.

I can't remember even thinking about sex until I was in, like, 4th grade and started to listen to a local sex-talk late night radio show (Dr. Judy rocked!)
