Kind of neat custom made rifle.

i doubt it, barrel can't be...but the rest? they already use plastics and stuff in other rifles for the rest of the bits.

be more interesting if he made it something like this http://henryrepeating.com/rifle-survival-ar7.cfm

I WANT!

That's a pretty badass little rifle. Hmmm, wonder where I could find one...

As far as the OP, I like the look of the rifle, not a big fan of the aluminum look though. Probably look a lot better with the barrel.

lol it looks neat but from the reviews its design is pretty shoddy in execution..ah well.

Could somethig like this really work. A gun made out of only aluminium. If it does work, I hope an extensive background check was done by the company that made it for him.

Why on earth do you think an "extensive background check" should be done on the company that machined the materials as described on the web page?

The chassis/stock is aluminum. The action, bolt and barrel are steel. From a legal standpoint, the action is the gun, and purchasing an action requires all of the same paperwork, background checks, fees, etc., that a complete rifle would.

"As the first and only semi-automatic .50 caliber rifle available, the Model 82A1 continues to blaze new territory."

I'm pretty sure the guys at AI would disagree.

Tell them to take the discrepancy up with Barrett Firearms. 😛

I wasn't deliberately trying to slight the UK, though I'm amused by your knee-jerk.

Edit: Naw, Fuck the UK. Take your vertically oriented, surveillance-happy culture and sit on it already.

I'm half-Brit, and totally fucking grateful that I live in the US.

Hahaha, 20 lbs, jesus christ. A vanilla AR-15 weighs about 6.5 lbs. While it's cool he designed his own gun, I agree that it looks pretty funky.

Oh, and I fucking HATE those types of "sniper" pistol grips. They need to be rounded up and set on fuckin fire.

Someone should report that website to Homeland Security. I am sure that stuff is illegal under Anti-Terrorism law.

A 20lb bolt action rifle in a bullpup configuration. A real danger...

And you'd generally be reporting to the BATFE if it's a DD, AOW, or illegal SBR. None of which apply in this case.

Seems like a bolt action bullpup would be awkward to operate..

..

most of the barrett's are bullpup IIRC.

It's actually quite nice because it's not nearly as long when you put it in a bullpup configuration. Also since it only uses a 5 rd box magazine it's not too long that it would hit the ground when you have the rifle shouldered.

LOL! Why make a custom aluminum gun that weighs more than a normal steel gun?

He probably didn't do any FEA or anything on it so didn't analyze where he could optimize the material usage for less weight.

I assume most gun manufacturers do this at some point to keep weight and material usage down.

Only a couple are, though there's a roughly even-split between semi and bolt action.

This particular homemade looks like a Barrett M95 and a Grizzly Big Bore had a downs child...I'm not sure if that weight includes the tripod and/or the scope. The M95 is a few pounds heavier. If it's only a couple pounds heavier than the DSR-1 inspiration, that's not all that bad (assuming it works well). You can't really find those rifles on gunbroker.
