Christians have basically danced around the Muslim world until the late 1800's since Muslims were so war like, the entire reason Colombus sailed west to try to reach India by sea was because it was practically suicide for Christians to go through the Middle East by land to reach India. Muslims being the religion of peace, would kill them.

Of course today Christian countries allow Muslims to move in and build Mosques etc, try moving to Saudi Arabia and build a Church! LOL is right, it wont happen! Hell you cant even enter Mecca if your not Muslim.
