WHOA! They let you switch? My brother and I are use Sprint PCS but when he called they said that the deal applied to phones only bought and activated at Radio Shack!

Right now i'm getting 400 anytime for $40 a month, including long distance.

The only details I got is that you have to buy from a Radio Shack. I saw it in their Sunday Ad. I'd suggest visiting Radio Shack. And the people in the Sprint PCS stores are IDIOTS. They messed up my phone and I had to get another REFURBISHED one. Morons.

I'd like to know to - I currently have an employee plan with a certain store - 700 minutes for $20 - no long distance though - 300 minutes + LD are worth an extra $10 though

YUP radioshack has the 1000 minutes for $30 right now, no long distance included...
its 200 anytime minutes
400 nights and weekends
and 400 bonus nights and weekends for 1 year (but youll prbably switch plans by then anyway)

i dont know if there is a minimum service requirement, or if you get the "additional option" (such as LD, wireless web, etc) by signing up for the Advantage Agreement (1-2 year contract depending on plan)

just call Radioshack and ask em!!! its one of the best sprint PCS promos going

Haha, sorry, but there's a reason sprint has "deals" . . . talk to someone that uses Sprint before you get it

I believe you have to get new phone/new activation throught Radioshack...yes they did a similar promo before, now they are doing it AGAIN..it just started, i think it runs till end of august

DAVE IS RIGHT..sprint pcs quality of service SUCKS big time, but if youre not a phone junkie its a good price/plan...you can EXPECT MANY DROPPED CALLS, and almost have to warn everyone you talk to at the beginning of a conversation "If this hangs up, call me back"! Its that serious of a problem...and forget about using it indoors in most buildings...

OK>>I SHOULD QUALIFY MY POST BY SAYING SERVICE VARIES GREATLY BY AREA but in San Francisco/Peninsula, sprint pcs service quality for me is terrible....your mileage may vary

Well, you can talk to me. I have tried many wireless phone services ( ATT, Southwestern, Verizon ) and Sprint is by far the best in both price and reception in my area. The only bad thing about them is their customer service (which SUCKS) but I haven't found a wireless service yet that had great CS.

I think you have to buy your phone at Radio Shack to get this deal so you probably won't be very successful at selling your phone on this thread.

If you are like me 1) 99% of the time within the city limits and 2) Make local calls and don't need nationwide calling then consider trying out http://www.voicestream.com/products/services/rateplans/or.asp currently they are offering

1,600 minutes per month for $39.95

600 weekday anytime minutes (none of that peak / off peak sh*t)
1,000 weekend FREE nationwide minutes (call anywhere in the lower 48 USA states)

Of course it comes with all the usual PCS perks:
First Incoming Minute Free
VoiceMail with Message Alert
Built-In Paging
Caller ID
Call Waiting and Call Hold
Detailed Billing
Emergency Calls
Customer Care

For an extra $5 you can get 500 additional minutes which can be used between VoiceStream to VoiceStream calls, your minutes come out of this allottment first before hitting your regular weekday or weekend allottment. For me this is the _perfect_ plan I get 1,600 minutes for only $39.95 per month and a nice Nokia 6190 cell phone.

Unfortunately VoiceStream isn't nationwide yet, so some of you may not be able to sign up with them. Hope this helps?

IMO, Sprint is pretty good. They have good rates, and even tho they suck now, they're growing pretty damned fast. The only good quality service out there is Cellone/AT&T, but they have yearly contracts.

After considering all the plans sprint seemed like the best deal... I got one of those nifty samsung phones. The problem is that the reception is terrible!! I live in the center of Durham which is shown on their coverage map but I have to drive a mile from my house to even get a signal. I can't get any calls in my home or office and my calls will get dropped while driving down the one major highway in town. Calls will be fine one minute and then break up and you can only here every other word.

I'm switching to something else as soon as I can get a deal on one of those new tiny Nokia phones.

I can vouch or the bad reception. I'm on a 2000 minutes plan and because of the poor reception I was only able ot use around 200 last month! It's really sickening. Does anyone know if there's any way to use the same phone for some other service (i.e. Verizon?)

For those of you who are on a local plan ,here is something which would make the plan a LOT sweeter!!!
you could program a calling card like http://www.bigzoo.com (3.9 cents per minute with no connection charge) into your cellphone.
Nokia cellphones have _excellent_ well documented calling card feature. You simply have to press the "Send" button for 5 seconds and it says "Calling Card Call". The pdf manuals on the nokia website better explain the feature. Motorola startac has it as well. Startac phones are awesome!
There is a link to getting calling cards on your cellphone at the bottom left side of the page.

One major advantage of this method is that you are paying for local access minutes (1000 minutes is pretty much unlimited). However your long distance once prepurchased from Bigzoo doesnt get purged every month end like it would if you have a freeLD plan.

I calculated and even in worse case scenario of you using up all the 1000 minutes , it would still cost you only around $80! If you used only 120 minutes of long distance and 800 minutes of local calling, it would be only $35!

Enjoy Calling!

This doesn't seem like a "Deal" at all to me. It sounds like a cell phone promotion that really isn't stretching their budget that much.

I jumped on this deal this past may when they offered it last time... 200/800 for a year @ $30. The plan is good, but the reception is terrible. :( This is the greater LA area, and part of the problem is my phone (samsung 2000), but my brother who has a 6185 has the same problems listed above when driving (other than driving its decent). I heard part of it is cuz sprint only uses one band of digital service... no analog or anything else... thats why in large buildings, it is hard to get a signal.

I live in RI and VerizonWireless sucks up here. Sprint has a much much btter service and their 1000 minute deal made me mad I didnt wait for that to come along before goin with VerizonWireless. I heavily warn people not to use BellAt...err Verizon for service provider.

Has anyone seen a good advertised deal on the Motorola Timeport 8167 phone? I bought one from Circuit City about 3 weeks ago and have up to 60 days to price match it if it shows up cheaper somewhere else. They retail for $299

Sprint PCS is fantastic. I will NOT switch even if given for free. We have had 2 other companies of cell phones - they sucked. Switched to PCS and have had wonderful service ever since. Nothing beats Sprint PCS in the Washington DC Metro area, thats for sure.

I'll have to second ? (=Þ)'s remarks that SprintPCS sucks in the greater LA area. I was using a Nokia 6185.
