The fan on my 4200 is dying... and very loud. Could i just unplug it, and install a pci blower right below it and still be ok?

that would probably work, but your best bet would be to buy a replacement gpu fan such asthis

would it be worth it to replace the heatsink on the 8RDA+ that I have coming w/ something larger? I do plan on overclocking
Would that fit onto an Abit Siluro 4200 64mb (not OTES)

Chances are it's not worth it to improve the cooling on a motherboard chipset. They usually have plenty of cooling already.

I have to totally disagree. The 8rda+ stock NB (northbridge) cooling sucks. Only like 30% of the NB is touching the heatsink (not really touching even cause they used some thick ass frag tape) and it's only passive cooling when it really should be active. The Vantec iceburg chipset cooler fits nicely. I would also use passive cooling on the SB. You can reuse the NB heatsink, but you have to cut it a bit to make it clear some pieces on the board.

Off topic here but, syberscott what voltage are you running on the hyper x, I got the same stuff and can't get above 170 with 2t, and totally unstable at 180 3t.
I want to run 200 sync w/ asus a7n8x and 2400.

Thanks in advance

My Vdimm is 2.77 volts.
To test the max speed of the ram run it asyncronously. That is, to leave the FSB at stock and only raise the ram ratio. You may have to play with the FSB after the ratio is higher to find the exact limit. The whole point of this is to see if it's actually the ram holding you back.

Or try this:
I use this proccess to overclock:
-Set the ram to 2.77Vdimm with cas 2.5 & about 7-5-5 timings (Nforce2 boards don't like cas3)
-Drop the multiplier down to 8
-Now increase the FSB by about 10 at a time
-If it crashes or locks raise the Vcore and try again
-When you get to a 200FSB start raising the multi
-Again, if it crashes or locks raise the Vcore (don't go over 1.85 volts on air)
-When you are happy with the multi or you can't go any higher start lowering the ram timings

By the way, I love those Grand Nationals. Is yours by any chance a GNX with the stock intercooler?:)

Thanks for the informative reply, most guys don't take the time to help us computer noobs. Cool I'm going to try it that order and see what is does. I was able to run the memory async @ 200fsb with 2.5t and stock voltage, made it allmost throught 3dmark01 then major artifacts, it that a sign to use higher voltage? When I set the cpu and mem sync it wouldn't post, I think for that I'll need a vdd mod. I'm gonna test the 190's area.

Also, on the cpu side I put it up to 2800+ and it was working fine for 3d stuff, 3dmark and battlefield. But I would get a reset sometimes trying to do something small like start norton seeddisk or outlook. Is that something that is fixed with more volt's? I tried running 1.7v didn't seem to help but I didn't know what was the safe voltage. Temps' are not a problem @42-45 full load.

Yeah, I wish I had a gnx, but the GN is faster than most gnx's, (most all are still stock)
this big buick still likes to show that corvette's aren't the only fast GM's made :)
