Today in class:

Me: There's a shuttle launch tonight at around 6:20 - and if you write a little piece about it and bring it in tomorrow, your teacher will give you extra credit.

Follow up questions:

What's a CNN?

What's NASA?

Is CNN near MTV on the channels?

What's the big deal about the space shuttle?

Good questions. I'm sure a good teacher would provide meaningful answers.

And I did. However, it breaks my heart that high school freshman don't know these things.

Obama's new education policy means no bonus for you. 😛

Are you teaching like... science for the slow, unmotivated, soon-to-be-dropouts freshman? Or a regular freshman science course?

I was always taught that there is no such thing as a stupid question. OP just proved that theory wrong.

Damn....and I here I do things like wake my son up at 5:30 in the morning to see a lunar eclipse. I'm debating on whether to keep him up past his bed time for the shuttle launch though because we're at the very edge of being able to see it and the forecast says Mostly Cloudy.

I was throwing the frisbee around with my friend yesterday when this hispanic kid, probably age 6 or 7, from his neighborhood came up to us walking his Chihuahua. He knew my friend from seeing him walk his dog. So this kid starts talking and brings up the fact that his cousin's dog just had babies. So my friend inquires what kind of dog they have. He said, "It's also a chihuahua, duh, we're mexican" and then he started to sing la cucaracha. Funniest thing I'd seen all day.

Speechless.

Ouch.

And just think, these are the shitheads that will be out into the industry as workers in 3-4 years.

Let's hope they grow up lots between now & then.
