Kids nowadays: The SnowFlake generation

Parents have been complaining about kids these days since Socrates and before.

What I think is most interesting about the whole ‘snowflake’ business is how the elderly and conservative who constantly throw that term around shriek and whine at the slightest criticism. The real snowflakes are the boomers who want both the freedom to do and say what they want as well as being freed from any criticism for it.

The most entitled generation in history is alive today but it’s not the kids, it’s their parents.

Funny, I don't feel entitled and neither do my peers that I personally know. I would say there is a subset who bitch.

I mean we are talking about entire generations of people so of course it’s a gross generalization.

In a broad sense though the boomers are the worst and most entitled generation in US history. They built their lives on the social welfare state their parents paid for and when it was their turn instead decided to cut their own taxes. They saw climate change and did nothing, etc.

Old man shouts same old meme.
As a parent\PTA member\Scoutmaster with kids in middle school and high school and the kids...maybe its just his kids that are snowflakes.

Back up there. That prior generation stole the retirements of many with Reagan. Climate change was an unknown but not now and what anyone does is certainly upon their own heads. Our taxes didn't go down when axed deductions were taken into account except for the top few (as always). Civil rights? Who marched in the streets? Vietnam, who was the voice of opposition?

Yeah there's a lot done wrong and I'm not going to defend it, but like Administrations, the next always have to deal with bullshit from history. The younger than Boomers will have to deal with that, including ours and in turn, will screw things up and in the end, be no better than the rest of us because none of us know what's going on in 20 years.

We are aren't generally a wise species and being newer or older doesn't change things. My overall feelings for those younger? One of sympathy and pity because the nature of our world outside of generational issues is that they will have no idea of what is going on and how to deal with it as the ability to be informed to the degree necessary is beyond everyone and alls comprehension in 2019. 2050? Fuck all.

The video and issues are exactly correct.

can't call anyone fat anymore - that's offensive, regardless of the truth. Instead we have "body positivity" and are ACTUALLY ENCOURAGING obesity by putting it on the front covers of magazines.

Can't call anyone dumb, short, midget, stupid, etc... It's basically denial of the truth for political correctness. Hell they try to get people to stop saying things like "handicapped" and "disabled" - it's really just gotten out of touch with reality.

Calling a disease or health condition a different word doesn't fix it - especially when you actively encourage it to the person that has it.

The reality is that I witnessed this stuff first hand as a kid. I grew up a fattie. It took getting into college and having my dad have a stroke for me to realize "Oh fuck, I really need to get my shit together". I had very little guidance of the real world up until I hit the real world and it was more of a "quickly learn it myself". It's a vicious world out there, and learning things like just because you graduated and have a piece of paper doesn't mean you're entitled to a dream job.

For every 1 of you - there are 50 others that did the same thing you did - except they did internships, graduated valedictorian, obtained an advanced degree/certification on top of it, etc...

I’m waiting for that Snowflake IPO—gonna be hot! Best datalake in the cloud for enterprises of all sizes.

Wait...what were we talking about??

I’m trying to think of a problem that being more of a dick to people is likely to solve.

What conservatives really want is the ability to do and say what they want without consequences.

Teaching our children to always be kind is the first step to reaching Star Trek utopia phase where the entire globe can work together to solve problems and advance our culture. I know this pisses off a lot of people that want to cling to the old ways of FYGM.

You can do any of those things and face whatever repurcussions come of it. How ridiculous is it to demand that you face no consequences for what you say and do?

That's not the case at all.

Telling someone that being fat is unhealthy isn't being a dick.
Telling someone that you lost a game isn't being a dick.
Telling someone that it's not okay to fail basic education class tests isn't being a dick.

It's called the truth - and some people may not want to hear it, but stating that it isn't the truth CERTAINLY doesn't fix the problem.

So lets just say we go full snowflake - no one ever gets to be told they are fat and/or stupid (be it insultingly or truthfully). What is the end result?

The end result is what we have today: The soft biggotry of low expectations. Problems are only increasing, not being addressed. But hey - someone's feelings didn't get hurt from an insult, they just suffer from massive depression and take pills all day. That's better though, right? OH - You say you're still having problems? Well here - take some more pills! Surely those will fix the massive gaping hole in your heart.

On some level I agree with you but your side uses it as an excuse to insult and be rude.

Do you think that fat people don’t know they are fat or something?

No, all of these things are being a dick.
Do you really think that fat people don't know it is not healthy?
Do you really think that they don't know they lost?
Do you really think that they don't know that failing is not okay?

No, you are being a dick because you are either being condescending, or you are just trying to make them feel bad. Because you are not giving them any novel information, you are just being an asshole.
