I hate to use the R word, but OTOH what I like best about racist conservatives is their inability to recognize that using the bad actions of some people to condone bad or even unlawful actions against some other people, solely because all those people happen to share a similar skin tone, is exactly what makes them racists.
As a religious bigot some would call a believer, I made a rookie mistake. I decided not to just to say God exists but to prove He does to boot. That worked out wonderfully well in the end but not in the beginning. I failed and in the process of dismantling every so called proof I could find in Western literature lost all my faith.
What I learned about bigotry in the process is that the reasons that bigots believe is because of unconscious unexamined assumptions I held that lay behind my thinking.
So for me the reason that racists see the world the way you describe above is because a part of their faith that makes it something worth holding to is that they fail to see that behind their views is the idea they accept because it was programmed into them and never examined for validity that whites are superior and blacks inferior people.
Everything falls out of that. Their bigotry isn’t bigotry at all in their eyes but just makes perfect sense. Black people make inferior choices because it is in their nature to do so lacking the capacity to do anything else, whereas whites just make occasional mistakes.
Once a stereotype become an unconscious premise we see what we believe while claiming we believe what we see. This is why people with humility and thus have no need for superiority regarding whatever race they happen to be can, will say, you can tell a bigot but you can’t tell him or her much. Bigots are blind to the fact their beliefs are unconsciously running programs.
