Kids cutting in line at Amusement Park

so, i'm at Dorney Park, an amusement park in Pennsylvannia and my son (10 yrs old) and i are in line for one of the major roller coasters. it's one of those that the feet hang off. great ride btw. we got thru the line pretty quickly, it only took us about 25 minutes to get on the ride.

anyway, about 10 minutes into the line a group of kids cuts, i mean really cuts in the line, they just walk by everyone pushing shoving sliding and they pass like 200 ppl. then about 5 minutes later another group does this trying to join the group that had just passed by everyone. this happens with like 4 groups. one of the older guys about 20 ppl in front of me points this out to one of the park employees, the employee kind of tries to say something to the kids that are cutting but they just ignore him and they go on up to the front. by then the kids that had cut are about half way up the steps to the ride. they start calling more of their friends to come join them. one group decides to join them, they are passing a bunch of people, finally this same older guy that said something earlier say, NOPE, you aren't going past me. they start ribbing him and stuff and trying to laugh off what he says. but he won't budge. then behind me a bunch of older people start clapping and cheering because this guy stood up to these young punks.

anyway, so, what would you guys have done?

also, does this story strike anyone as agist? what if i had used black instead of young and white instead of older, would that then have made the story racist?

btw, the story above did indeed happen but it was black people trying to cut, a white guy standing up to them and a bunch of white people cheering.

this story made me think, the story as told with young people vs old people doesn't bother anyone, no one thinks, oh he is just generalizing etc etc. and yet, when this story is told black vs white, all of a sudden it's a completely different standard. . . why the doulbe standard?

i went there i think 12 or 13 years ago. what's their biggest/baddest coaster? when i was there, it was hercules 🙂

You bigot!

😉

I recall when I was younger, my brother and I were at Disney and had to leave in a short amount of time, it was just after some big new ride opened but happened to be shut down most of the day for repairs or something. Anyways... We had very limited time before we had to meet up with our parents in front of the park to leave (this was of course before everyone had cell phones, so it was important to be on time) so my brother and I got the bright idea that maybe if we cut here and there in the line we'd be able to skim off enough time to get on the ride and make it out of the park in time. Well we were doing pretty good and got near the front of the line, we didn't just straight up walk to the front or anything, but would hop a few people here and there (we were kids and figured they wouldn't mind to much) but towards the front of the line, a cop comes up to us and tells us we have to leave the ride and aren't welcome to get back into the line. We were pretty bummed out but were also glad that was all the punishment we received (being kids and not knowing any better, we thought he could have arrested us or something like that).

Still to this day though, I've never been on that ride 🙁

I think it was splash mountain or something like that.

I wouldn't have let the first group pass me in the first place. I mean you're in a cattle chute, it's not like they're somehow sneaking by indiscreetly.

You do raise a somewhat interesting point, about young/old and black/white, but it wouldn't have made any difference to me.

You're looking for racism where 'little' exists.

The guy who stood up to them was standing up to incorrect behavior...preiod....

Race don't enter into it.

The fact that whit people, in your perception, cheered him on is understandable, because they identified with him and didn't have anything to lose (the racial affiliation of a potential black person who might have cheered the same guy on) by doing so.

Quit making trouble.

Anyone and everyone, regardless of skin-color, should have told those fvckwads to go to the back of the line.

Actually, yes they can get by you without passing you physically. I've seen it happen many times. Kids will join their parents or friends by crawling underneath the railings or ropes to get ahead. Of course, this can't happen if the line is completely full.

agreed, race doesn't enter into it, BUT the fact that it was black vs white, i should be able to tell the story, but i guarantee that if i had posted just the black vs white without the young vs old, a bunch of people would have come on crying racism etc etc.

fact is, altho the race of the offenders and the race of the person standing up to the offenders was not relevant, it is also something that i should be able to put in the story in order to describe the people and it should be no different from saying young or old.

This same scenario happened to us at Six Flags Great Adventure in NJ a few years ago. Unfortunately, and not to be racist, but in this area it seems to be the "young black teenagers" that think they can do whatever they please and blatantly jump the queue. Fact that I was there with a lady friend and there were in excess of 15 of them and they were quite rowdy stopped me or anyone else from saying anything, but gave me a reason to stop going to that park. We now take a yearly trip out to Sandusky, OH and visit Cedar Point instead... Seems to be less troublesome youths there.

I had some kids TRY this with me, and I said "hey mvtherfvcker (yeah, that's how I address anyone trying to cut in front of me), where are you going? I don't mind you cutting in line, just as long as it's BEHIND me." Then they just got behind me. I don't know why people just sit there and let it happen. That just pisses me off.

I had a gangster black guy cut directly in front of me in the line for the theater the other day. I told him that's not where he was and to get behind us... so he just went behind me, out of my concern

If I was there with a big group, my friends and I would block the line. If I was there with 2-3 people only, my actions would depend on the probability of the perpetrators having weapons on them.

The park needs to get that behavior under control. Large groups of fatherless teenagers have shutdown malls and other outdoor areas in the city I live in.

Whaa? Young (as in kids) versus old would indeed be relevant. As would -possibly unbeknownst to you and the other cheerers, a situation where there was a birthday party or such where the rest were seperated for some reason and joined those already queued. I wouldn't see a problem there. Although their adult escorts, at least, would suffer some social demerits for poor organization (ergo, failing to wait until they were all there before joining the line). If they were mature people -whether young adults or octogenarians there would be a problem (race is totally irrelevant). Nothing worse than a gang of AARP'ers thinking they have special rights just 'cause they're old and not hesitating to intimidate others with their canes!

wtf? Why did you even ask the race question? I see them as a-holes. They could be white, black, or whatever, I would've reacted the same way. The only difference would've been my description to the security while we wait for them to get off the ride.

One of the reasons I don't go to Great Adventure anymore is because of the type of people who go there. New Yorkers. That and the long lines.

Dorney was a lot better when I used to go there. It's a smaller park and farther from the city, so you get fewer obnoxious people.

Hershey Park was pretty good last time I went too (granted I was in high school, so that was about 10 years ago).

Race didn't really factor into this in my opinion. In both cases, the people cutting were assholes/idiots and the other guy was awesome

Hmm, now that i think about it i used to do this as a teenager at six flags magic mountain...no one never said anything to me haha...
