Kids buried/killed in accident at unauthorized construction site.

This story struck a nerve because I did similarly dumb things playing in construction sites decades ago. I lived in a fast-growing city with few ordinances and there were giant construction sites with high rises that were pretty much open to anyone. I survived with nary a scrape, but who knows what toxins I absorbed from playing in a pit of black construction "water." D:

I played in a ton of abandoned buildings back in the day. Good times. I wasn't 6 or 7 years old though. WTF are kids that young doing unsupervised anyway.

I'm sure the idiot parents will get a huge payday.

Too bad. From the story, it looks like the father is to blame...

The father had been digging with a backhoe on the site earlier in the day, Sheriff David Carpenter said. He would not say what was being built or if the man was doing it alone or had professional help. He did say authorities didn't know of any permits that had been issued for the work or plans detailing the project.

Burleson described the pit as 20 feet by 20 feet with a sloped entrance leading down to the 24-foot bottom. The children were at the bottom of the pit retrieving a child-sized pickaxe when the walls fell in on them, Carpenter said.

Unpermitted excavation, no shoring for the walls...that's an accident waiting to happen.

Because of the threats from North Korea we should all be preparing underground bunkers no matter how far out in the country you live.Of course since Bank of America (nee Nationsbank) is headquartered in North Carolina they may be a nuke target.

The children have been identified as James Levi Caldwell, 7, of Stanley, and Chloe Jade Arwood, 6, of Gastonia, CBS affiliate WBTV reported.

...

Authorities have not released the names of the father or the children.
Normally, you write that second line because you don't have the names, but they're mentioned above (and quoted). 😵

News sites add on to the top of articles instead of the bottom. Because they're retarded and they expect their readers to be, as well. I'd be inclinded to agree, with that browser-crashing abortion of a news site...

As far as the actual event in article: dumb parents are dumb. The kids are victims of not forcing IQ tests upon prospective breeders.

Besides the obvious stupidity of letting a fucking kindergardener play in a hole...the father was building himself a doomsday bunker there, eh? Doing a poor job of it, you say?

Yeah, real rocket surgeon there.
