Kidney Stones

Anyone had them? My dad just came from the Doc and he said he might have kidney stones. Anyway, how do they get rid of it (after blasting them with sonic waves or what ever)? Can anyone who went throught it (or know about this) explain to me how they do it?

BTW - He told us right after we watched friends. It was the episode when Joe got kidney stones (and feebey went in to labor).

Not sure about kidney stones, but I'm sure if he has them that he's got some serious pain goin' on or something. I hear that after you get them taken out, it's just as painful for a few days as it is when they're still there -but I have no idea why.

Can they actually remove those things, I thought they gave you something to drink so that they will come out. I really have no idea.

I've had them twice...not a fun experience. I had a nurse tell me once that she had given birth and had kidney stones and she thought giving birht was LESS painful. If the stones are small they will come out on their own, just drink lots of water, beer, or cranberry juice. Tell your Dad to get a 2nd opinion about blasting them. I had 2 different doctors tell me they wouldn't do it because there is a risk to damaging your other organs and they weren't willing to take the chance unless the stones were just incredibly large.
