Oakland County Sheriff's Office investigators spent several hours Sunday questioning a student they believe threatened to stage a Columbine-style attack on Rochester High School.

Police said the suspect didn't appear to have plans to carry out an attack, but declined to identify him or release additional information.

"We want moms and dads and teachers to have a degree of comfort in knowing we believe we're talking to the person who made the threat," Sheriff Michael Bouchard said Sunday night.

The suspect was still in police custody as of 9:40 p.m., but had not been arrested.

The threat was found scrawled on a bathroom wall Wednesday at the school. Police said it read: "On Monday March 20 I'll bring a gun to school. It will be Columbine Part Two. This is your only warning."

The district sent letters home Friday about the threat. Students returning to class today will see additional security measures, including the limiting of entry to one doorway and more police presence, according to a notice posted on the school's Web site.

"People are anxious, and our presence is there to reassure them," Bouchard said. "We want them to feel comfortable as well as safe."

Authorities found no weapons in a weekend search of the school grounds and lockers.

A second threat was discovered at the school Saturday, prompting cancellation of a school dance, but police wouldn't release details.

According to local news he was arraigned today, suspect still insists it was a prank, the DA promised to make an example and prosecute him to the full extent of the law. As their first example bail was set at $100,000 full cash.

Serves the kid right, you cant do that kinda stuff in this day and age. Discuss.

If it's a prank then the kid is a dick. Though I don't agree that setting an example of him is the right thing to do. Kids do stupid things, left alone he'll likely have a pretty normal life.

Silly. The kids who will pull a columbine part II will not give warning it will just happen. From what I understand they were highly intellgent and methodical like most serial killers are, noy likly to give warning.. So essentialy they are punishing him for his poor sense of humor.

Yeah, but it's good politics to make examples out of smart ass kids.

Any threat should be taken seriously and followed through, including prosecution regardless of whether the suspect claims it's a prank or not...

Just because he's a kid doesn't mean he's off the hook.

Kids do dumb things, I just hope the government doesn't end up screwing up the kid more than he already is.

lol, people write cr@p like this all the time. I mean comeon, do people actually believe stuff thats written on bathroom walls? Obviously the kid shouldn't have wrote it, but it aint exactly something to freak out about, just a joke in bad taste. Kid should get suspended for a week, not jail. Also, what type of idiot gets caught writing a threat like this on a wall?

It's unfortunate that people feel that way. I like to believe very little, if anything, has changed since 9/11. Although people's allowance of this change proves me wrong. We forgot those famous words, "the only thing you have to fear is fear itself." Looks like we have a lot of fear to fear these days.

My solution / punishment:

[*]One week of jail (if a week doesn't hurt, longer sure isn't going to give em the point)
[*]Three months of house arrest - ankle bracelet required. Any violation of 30 yards past the house is instant jail.
[*]Personally must hand-write letters of apology to every student at the school for being a dumb-ass. "I understand it was like shouting FIRE in a crowded theater, and could have seriously caused harm to my fellow students."
[*]Reimburse the school for all teacher time used, costs incurred sending letters home.
[*]2000 hours of community service.
[*]and of course, this all goes on your PERMANENT RECORD

At least they didn't shoot him on sight (like a few here on P&N probably would've)

Well, i guess the terrorists did win if thats how it is for you...

In my mind nothing should be different after 911 except *maybe* some of the increases in airport security. I certainly haven't changed anything in my life since 911. I deffinitely understand what you are saying, but I consider it a very bad thing that things have changed, we don't need everyone being scared and paranoid because of terrorism, thats exactly what the terrorists want.

Increased airport security is great and all, but in my mind, I think it should be more about self-awareness of our actions. Beefing up security in one spot does just about nothing. Being more aware can keep people safe no matter what route they want to go.

This charge is terroristic threats (a felony - and one that was used many times long before 9/11). Im not sure why some of you think he should be exempt from the law in this case. What this ADULT (he's 18) is set to learn is that there are consequences for his actions. What kind of message would 1 weeks suspension be? Hmmm "I can threaten to kill people, and I dont get in much trouble for it!"

It really boils down to crappy parenting. My parents brought me up with the idea that I shouldnt be a burden on anyone (or society), and the idea that I could cause a big ruckus and inconvienece many others by doing something like this would have never crossed my mind. His, apparently didnt.

Yes, technically you could say this is a terrorist threat, but thats kinda a pretty liberal interpretation of the law. Clearly anyone with a brain would've realised it was only a stupid joke. On the same logic everytime you ""borrow" a pencil or something you should be put on trial for petty theft. Or everytime you download music on the internet you should pay a 100,000$ fine. Or if you tape an NFL game you should go to jail for violating copyrights (they always say at the beggining that you cant do that). Need i even continue with stuff like speeding and jaywalking etc... Point is, that there are alot of things that are technically crimes with pretty signifigant punishments, but the law should be able to determine the difference between a real terrorist threat and a prankster.

Poor judgment, that is for sure. Nobody even noticed the fact that they searched all the lockers in the school as well. I'm surprised they're not strip-searching everyone upon entry. Or maybe they are. I'm sure the Fascist types are enjoying it.
