What's with all these calls for Ginger Ale. Soda is not good for little kids. it isn't even good for big kids.
Because it's a well known fact that both ginger root and lightly carbonated drinks help soothe nausea. That's why ginger ale is such a popular remedy, and has been for generations. Carbonation is not bad for you. Excess sugar may be bad for you, but I doubt the amounts a nauseous person consumes when they are sick is consequential. Even small amounts of warm cola can help because of the carbonation.
for dehydration i always go w/ pedialyte. i like the electrolytes w/ minimum sugar approach.
It does no good if the child cannot keep the pedialyte down. Ask any doctor what a good remedy for nausea is, and ginger will come up. And what is the point of minimizing the sugar intake of a sick child who can't keep food or water down? Sugar is absorbed quickly, and may be the only energy absorbed before the child throws up again. Why have people taken the knowledge that excess sugar is bad, and turned it into ALL sugar is bad? It is not. As with everything else, it is just fine in moderation.

I have a feeling no doctor was asked.

for a culture that drinks soda instead of water i think advising reduction of soda intake is not a bad thing. it's not about the one or two incidents but about lifestyles. i see parents giving children soda like water and i have to think, that poor child will grow up obese. what is sugar in moderation, this is a culture where moderation is actually excess. the amount of sugar in most store bought foods today is appalling. i'm not against occasional sweets, i bought my kids cotton candy the other day, i just don't want my kids thinking sugared cereal and sugary turnovers for breakfast is a good thing.

Oooohhh, lucky me!
the ice chips worked, AND found some Pedialyt Icesicles in the freezer.
Its all downhill from here baby. 🙂

Thanks again guys and gals!

Glad to hear that you found a temporary remedy.

I can't stand it when my kids get sick especially my little angel, I feel helpless and I would gladly be sick in their place.

Nevcer have truer words been spoken.
Yeah, there on the rebound for sure. Zak (son) is sleepy sounding on the couch (Finally!) Brianna (oldest) watchin TV and sydney (youngest) sleepin in her little bouncer car seat dealy. (I have no idea what it is, like a vibrating baby recliner thingy)

That's fine, but you're over reacting. This is a sick child, and a cold remedy. Not a daily drink or snack.

At any rate, sugar is a good source of quickly absorbed energy. Just ask any athlete. There is a time and place for sugar. To over react and treat it as if it's evil will only give your kids food fetishes later in life.

The time to bitch about sugar is on an everyday basis. This is an unusual event.

Other things to try: jello, either set or still liquid; coke - really really cold and mostly flat; popsicles; chocolate milk shake. If the kid has a sort throat from all that spitup then ice or something cold can deaden it a bit.

Also, using a straw can be soothing.

Coca-cola syrup is a classic remedy for an upset tummy. I can remember getting it from the pharmacy for that purpose.
