Congrats! One of my best friends here in SoCal graduated from MIT and my friend Lael is a grad student there at the moment. Have fun in Boston... 😀

Who did you sleep with? What classes did you take? Overall GPA? Test scores? Secrets? Powerful dad?

Jeez, i'm sure the kid is real bright and had at least a 4.0/ 1500+ SAT plus tons of extra curriculars and 40 hours + of AP credit.
I mean do you even have to ask?

"Who did you sleep with?"

that seems a bit tacky.

WTF. You have a girlfriend and yet are good enough to get in there? And so is the female? SHENANIGANS! There is NO possible way to balance romance and studies in that manner.

Remember, a lot of these expensive colleges give out scholarships. Don't be overwhelmed by the 45K per year price tag. It is more likely 30 to 35K. Also look for private funding from companies, etc.... Don't give up the opportunity.

Thats quite the achievement, man. I wish I had applied to MIT 4 years ago. Still ended up at a pretty good university and out in the working world now. Still, thinking of what would have been.

Be careful of the frats at MIT, notorious for alchoholism. interesting fact about MIT is that you would be hard pressed to find a non engineering frat.

anyways, good luck to you and your family.

Thanks for the advice 🙂

On scholarships/financial aid, I've already applied to a handful of engineering scholarships. Now that college applications are finished, I will definitely be dedicating more time to trying to win some money to help my parents out. I might take up a job next semester to earn some money to help even more...though that depends on if they'll let me or not.

And...I don't plan on becoming an alcoholic...I've never understood the fun of getting drunk...

w00t. Well, if it makes you feel better, I hate the Yankees...hehe

Congraduation! Tough school to get in, and tough school to study. You need to earn your way up. Good luck w/ your future.

Congratulations.

Where do you go to High School by the way?

Also, realize that your dating standards will plummet in about 2 years, unless of course you choose to hit up the Boston University, Harvard girls.

Uh, I go to HS at Enloe High School in Raleigh, NC.

As for dating standards...my girlfriend got in too...so I won't have to worry about that I hope. Though, a current MIT-er tells stories of "f*ck trucks" from harvard...teehee

Those f*ck trucks are from Wellesley -- get your colleges straight! Congrats man!

Haha...I haven't slept with anyone yet. Well, I slept with my parents when I was a baby...does that count?

Classes...our school has 8 periods a day, and I took 3 regular level courses in 9th grade; everything else has been honors. In 10th, I took Calculus AB/BC (5 on the BC exam), 11th I had Physics C (5), AP English Comp&Lang (5), IB History of Americas (took AP USHist, 5), AP Environmental Science (stupid class but it was required...5), and Calculus III and Intro to Difeq at NC State University. 12th, I'm taking AP English Lit, IB Physics HL, IB 20th Cent. World Topics, AP German, AP CompSci, and Linear Algebra at NCSU.
-btw..I'm in my school's IB program...not sure if that made a huge difference or not, but it's been a fun/enriching experience

GPA is 5.24/6 (reg=4, H=5, AP=6); will rise to 5.43 with the addition of SR year classes when I graduate.

SAT I = 740M/770V, SAT II = 800 Math IIC, 790 Physics, 750 Writing

Extra-Currics: some leadership (president of 2 clubs--a tutoring group & a magazine), lots of math competitions (regional, state, national), chinese school...Habitat for Humanity...and some other odds and ends

Secrets: Uhm...those are secret? But really I don't have anything really weird/special...lol

Powerful dad: not particularly, no

Hope that answers Lager's question somewhat? I was pretty surprised to be admitted actually...if you're applying to college now & have questions, I'm more than happy to try and help.

Thanks Fausto! 🙂

No problem. Best of luck at MIT. Try to think of the little people in a few years when you have your degree and are raking in the cash. 😛

Sheesh, you remind me of that guy on Better Luck Tomorrow. You must do something rebellious when you're taking that much stuff and studying that hard in them. If I study for more than 45 mins, I have to go hijack a car or something just to loosen up.

And oh yeah, congrats!

That's crazy! LOL....... Unbelieveable! You deserve to get to MIT with all these crazy courses you took in HS.

But education and school name does count when it comes to job hunting for the first time.

Aights congrats Eric! I had my MIT interview tomorrow, and everything's looking hopeful according to the guy. Might cya at MIT next fall 🙂 Oh yea btw I used to live in Cary too 🙂 It's a small world...

Lol...I think that's an understatement. Those MIT guys are amazing. I go to a pretty good engineering school, and I've heard the comparison that our smartest guy would be among their dumbest (and our smartest is already pretty damn smart). Plus, my physics teacher was telling me most (?? or most smart ones? forgot what she said) guys don't graduate from MIT because while they're there, they invent something and would be making big bucks.

Eh...there are exceptions in every racial stereotype. I'm lucky enough to be one of those exceptions...and I'm sorry to you, but still, I'm proud to be who I am.

I got accepted to the College of DuPage junior college. I think all I needed was my name and money.

Congrats and good luck! Let nothing stand in your way of getting through it. I dropped out when I was 19 and got a good job but now I'm 29 and going back. It's MUCH harder the second time around when a whole new list of responsibilities confronts you. I doubt you need to hear this though.

ohhhh. Someone from the Dupage area. What do you plan on doing? Transferring after 2 years or going right into work?
