Kia Soul

The name belies the vehicle with such poetic perfection that it seems they consulted a poet to come up with it.

That's just what I was thinking. It looks like KIA sent some dyslexic engineer to copy the XB (which is hideous and soooo awful) so as to copy it. Unfortunately, instead of copying it he made it just that much more ugly.

Avoid KIA unless you have no money or bad credit and it is all you can afford.

Competing against the Nissan Cube...

I don't know about these box cars, they are big in Japan, but I don't think they are great sellers in USA. Plus with their drag coefficients they don't get the actual gas mileage they should with those small engines. In USA where our freeways are a main source of travel, I'd think while going 60+mph in a box would sound something like a jet in your ear. While in Japan where everything is smaller, speed limits are lower, they do great.

Just not my cup of tea.

I like this car and the Cube too. A square for a square, eh?

The Soul will get some suspension tuning from Lotus.

Text

Kia has contracted Lotus Engineering to inject some s[e]oul into its future models, with the new Soul crossover as the first product of the partnership. UK-bound Kia models will now get market-specific suspension tweaks to please demanding British drivers.
The Soul suspension is sharpened with higher compression and rebound rates along with improved bump stops that will stop the Soul from bottoming out on pothole-stricken roads.

In dialogue with CAR Magazine, Kia says that all future UK-bound Kia models will benefit from the Lotus treatment. According to Kia, ?the changes are designed to stop harshness getting into the cabin, while giving improved steering feel on high frequency undulations. They also give the car more poise, and prevent the car using the whole suspension range over bumps.?

The Kia Soul has taken some media criticism for its suspension, and this Lotus collaboration may be just the remedy it needs. Kia has made great strides along with its Hyundai parent in recent years with products like the Kia C?eed, and the Soul appears to continue moving Kia in the right direction.

I like the name. Asia and Europe have been getting cars with emotion-inspiring names for a long time now. It is about time that the US gets some cars with some cute names to get young people into them.

between this and the cube for my next car.

wow, the reaction for this car here and in car lounge is completely different. the car lounge gets into an orgy-fest on every kia soul thread, whereas here, it's just like another xB thread, haha.

In my opinion, it's not my cup of tea, but I think it's a great youth model and a solid alternative to the xB, cube, and others. It just looks more utilitarian compared to the other youth box cars.

Now, if they only offered a better transmission, engine w/ direct injection, and AWD...

Of course, they want to keep costs low, so they probably used existing cheap parts from their older models and stuffed it in this car.

More than likely, a 2010, 2011, and beyond model of this car would hopefully come with more and more options with not much of a sacrifice in cost.

I actually like the look of these kinds of cars coming out. This one reminds me of a helmet, and the windscreen wrap around looks like sunglasses.

I just googled the Cube, THATS cool! IMO of course.

for the low price, it packs a lot of options at least. someone looking for a fuel efficient car would probably at least test drive it to see how it compares to the xB and element.

If only one of those options was that it wasn't a Kia, then it would be better.

I don't know how those Gentlemen can stand next to it and smile. I would barf if I was anywhere near this car. I don't like it .. 😛

...A standard 1.6L four banger pushes roughly 120 horses through a five-speed manual tranny...

What is with this horrible trend of designing vehicles with the aerodynamics of a small house, and then dropping go-kart engines into them? That thing is probably wheezy as hell when attempting an expressway merge.

No sir, I do not like it.

🙁 seems like I'm always fond of the cars no one likes. i think it's a very nice effort for them at least. i like those diesel models i've been reading about though. those should merge just fine 😉
