I have no idea how good this medias are, although it would help for if someone mentions it. I did search for this deal, didn't see it anywhere.

At the OM in Bloomington, IL they were replacing Khypermedia with HP DVD+r 25 packs and they sold it straight up for $9.99. No rebate hassle. They also substituted Pacific Digital 8x DVD writer for the MagicSpin 8x writer. I'm very impressed!

I got there when OM opened. Grabbed two packs of Khypermedia DVD+R 2.4x. They show up in cd speed as CMC Mag R01. Successfully burned a full DVD in 25 minutes @ 2.4x with an Optorite DD0203 Firmware rev. 2.30. They also play great in my Toshiba DVD player. $9.99 for 25 DVD+R's is an awsome deal.

may i ask when you say 25 mins, did you include the time that it writes into the harddrive? Well, are you backing up a movie?

Lead in + Image + Lead out = 25 minutes. This is just for burning the ISO to DVD. ISO is 4.3 GB (DVD+R has a max of 4.38GB).

Oh ok, in that case its about the same for me too. Thanks for the reply.

The majority of the Khypermedia DVD is real crap, their cdr is okay, but the DVD,well, unless you like wasting your money, stay away from them like the plague. With the price of Ritek, and Memorex going down to a reasonable level, why even mess with this junk? You've been warned

In what ways are they crap? Im okay with the fact that they are only 2x. My only concern would be long term reliability, but since they are relatively new I'm not sure if theres even any info out yet about that.

Any info regarding this media would be appreciated. I used a few of Kingston's DVD-R discs from last week's OM deal for data and they worked fine with my Pioneer DVD A06 @ 2x.

I just picked up a 25-pack of KHypermedia DVD+RW's at MicroCenter the other day for $13, and they are made by Ricoh--definitely not junk.

They may or may not be crap. Here is a pretty decent article on the subject and they cover the CMC discs too. Link Good luck!

the hp's that are getting subbed in are ricoh's which are really good. Im sure they will burn at 4x even though they say 2.4x

I got the free 10pk at Thaksgiving, these Khyphermedia's work excellent for me. I will buy them this go-around too.

Thanks for the heads-up!

what software should i use to tell who makes my media, I Dled ADVDInfo v0.7b from afterdawn, but it tells me i need ASPI v4.60+ and im a bit wary of installing it (not to mention i have no idea where to get it)

The HP's I got are not Ricoh:

Region information N/A not a DVD-VIDEO
Media code/Manufacturer ID CMC MAG R01
Format Capacity Blank
Free Blocks 405405696
Free Capacity 4.38GB(4.70GB)
Book Type DVD+R
Media Type DVD+R
Media Id Code Speed 2.4x 3324KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 2.4x 3324KBps
Data area starting sector 30000h
Linear Density 0.267um/bit
Track Density 0.74um/track

From what I've read CMC Mag discs are inconsistent. I've had very good luck with Philips discs which are also CMC Mag . Can't complain for $.40 after rebates.

OM is sub'ing the HP DVD+ for Khypermedia $9.99 out the door. There is a HP rebate for $10 to make it FAR.

hmmm. I just checked vcdhelp and saw that the 2.4x discs are ricoh. No mention of cmc magnetics 2.4's.
What does the spindle you got look like. Post a pick or #'s or something. Maybe there are different kinds of spindles out there just like the memorex

i found DVDinfoPro and that worked once i stuck in a disc that i had burned a movie onto. the Khypermedia discs that i got are CMC MAG R01

Actually, theres no mention of a limit anywhere on the page of the booklet that I received in the store. They would only let me have 2 packs at the $9.99 out the door price though! 🙂

Edit: Sorry, reread it and it's ONE REBATE PER ITEM...so is that one rebate total or can you get ONE rebate per EACH item purchased (i.e. 2 rebates for 2 HP cakes?)?

I don't think you can get 2 rebates - it's ONE rebate per each item listed on that rebate form, the way I read it.
