i just got one of those family meal things. and the mashed potatoes always come in the same size styrofoam cup thing as the gravy. but... (at least when i eat)... i never use all that gravy with the same amount of mashed potatoes. so i'm wondering... do you use all that gravy?

honestly don't remember, but I would like to say that KFC has the best mashed potatos & gravy in the world!

You've obviously never had REAL homemade mashed potatoes and gravy.

okay, i admit this thread is pointless. but it IS something that i've wondered about for a LONG LONG time. (my family seems to like getting a bucket of kfc for large informal family gatherings)

Hmm.. never really thought about it. However, some crispy strips with mixed ranch and hot sauce sounds really good right about now...

Amen to that. Saying KFC mashed potatos are the best is akin to saying McDonald's make the finest pure beef hamburgers in the world. Most fast food places that try to serve vegetables and other traditional 'sit down' type meal side dishes generally do a horrible job IMO. And it's not really their fault. It's just the logistics of operating a chain of stores like that makes freshness and quality nearly impossible. I remember Boston Market tried to open here in Birmingham promising that type of meal with the convenience of fast food. I think they lasted about 2 months. All you had to do was eat there once and realize that mass market fast food just isn't going to be able to offer anything remotely close to the same type of quality. Plus, you can throw a rock and hit a greasy spoon type diner offering those type meals (at MUCH better quality) in the same price ballpark as Boston Market, KFC, etc. You just have to sacrifice on convenience.

Their potatoes are good for a fast food joint, but what's even better is when you get your mashed potatoes and part of the bag that the mashed potatoes came in is in your mashed potatoes. Didn't freak me out because it clearly read mashed potatoes on the piece of bag, but I didn't eat anymore after seeing it.

The extra gravy's good for dipping the biscuit into. No need for all that gravy to go to waste.

ditto but i feel like i'm going to have a heart attack after eating KFC.

i prefer boston market too. i hardly use any gravy. so much goes to waste. i wonder why they don't make smaller carton things.

Nope, I end up throwing the extra gravy away. I guess they just use the same size container for everything so they don't need to stock different sizes. Mmmmm. KFC. A cardiovascular feast of DOOM!!!
