I have a few questions about this. First, how do you completely debone a chicken? Last time I tried to debone a chicken, I wound up with a big mess. How to you debone a neck, leg, wing, or even the thigh without making a mess?

Is this done mechanically or by hand? I would think that this must be done by hand, and therefore, the price should be substantially higher due to the increase in labor? No?

I’ve also noticed that since KFC has come out with their boneless chicken, now Popeye’s has come out with their boneless chicken. Will this be the trend for all the chicken shops?

What is the liability of KFC or any other chicken shop that advertises and sells a boneless chicken and you bite down and break a tooth on a bone? How can they be so sure it is fully deboned? I could spend 20 minutes deboning a chicken and still not be 100% sure that all the bones are gone.

Deboning a chicken is quite easy actually.

I would guess that the de-boning is done mechanically and the meat is processed and reconstituted. You aren't buying a piece of chicken that had a bone slid out of it while keeping it intact, you're buying chicken that has been pressed together from a big vat of meat. But I don't eat at KFC so maybe I'm way off.

Are you guys serious? Never heard of boneless chicken breasts or thighs? Boneless wings? These ... are not new things...

My bet is on either genetically-modified boneless chickens.

OR

Making it via the "pink slime" method like McD's nuggets.

boneless wings are really just chicken nuggets of course, but the other things are commonly found in grocery stores. you can buy a pack of boneless, skinless chicken thighs any day of the week. there's an additional labor cost to the packing plant but the plant has more product to sell (skin and bones for whatever use they have - chicken stock, dog food, etc.)

All the boneless wings I've ever seen were not like nuggets.

well they're not the ground up reconstituted chicken of a mcnugget. but they're not any different from chik fil a nuggets. just piece of cut up white meat.

I saw an article in last month Popular Mechanic and they are working on a new and improve deboned machine for chicken. Right now, most of the work are done by hands.

never eat "boneless chicken." you basically have no idea how to tell what is in that mechanically separated and pressed chicken that you are eating.

grody.

I had some the other day. It looked like slices of chicken loaf pressed together. Not a taste treat either.

My grocery store sells fresh whole chickens and I cut them however I want. There is an occasional feather still on the wings. Good eats.

I just had some! They were pretty gross. Not too surprising. Super greasy. The chicken strips are a lot better but hella expensive for some reason. I only eat at KFC maybe twice a year though.
