Keystroke logger?

Hey all

I came into work today and there were some emails that were read already in my inbox that i didnt get till late last night after i left work, around 8pm.

I was one of the last people out, though the cleaning crew comes in later in the night to clean. I also am missing a few nice pens from my desk. But the kicker is, my recent documents have changed as well.

Without a doubt i know someone went into my PC. i plan on putting a password on my computer, but my boss wants to catch who it is. We have a lot of cameras in the office, thats what we do, and he wants to set one up on my desk. (its not covered right now) But we want to prove that my PC is being used. I saw some remote keylogging programs, but i think hes looking for a free solution. I have a lot of sensitive company information on my hard drive, so i want to see whats going on.

Anyone have any other ideas?

You sell security cameras, but your not concerned enough about security to have a password on your
computer?

Seriously. Unless you have an office with a lock on the door, why on earth would you NOT password protect your computer?

it never really dawned on me to put a password.

i mean the info on my computer isnt about national security, but as far as P&L info for companies its got some stuff on it.

Plus i never realized im in the one spot where there isnt camera coverage.

Our whole office is keycard protected, so no one can get in besides the cleaning crew.

OBVIOUSLY, im going to put a password on it now. It prevents further problems, but i want closure. I dont want to put a password on it and never know.

Passworded screen savers are easy to get around, just hit the power switch..

I think that there are some keylogging programs on astalavista, might want to check it out

finally after 5 responses an answer.

but one person was right, if he/she only uses the mouse what can i do?

Your best bet is the camera. What kind of cameras do you use? You could setup a webcam on the computer and hide it - you could setup a wireless camera in a corner somewhere, or just turn one of your existing cameras towards your computer area.

You need an event driven screen capturing software to really record what he/she is doing.

Don't count out the cleaning crew.

Wife does tech support @ a hospital, and the cleaning crew has computer access, seems whenever there's a computer problem like yours, it can be tracked back to housekeeping staff logging on to PC's they should be leaving the hell alone.

When they log onto another computer, it generates another user account that's easily trackable.

Worry less about what othe people are doing, and more about your own security. Key cards are great and all, but they provide no security to the information if you don't have a password. And confidential information should be encrypted.

sub7 probably has a keylogger, I can't remember. But this is a software issue, not an Off Topic one.

Plus getting a sub7 off the net is kind of hard... virii aren't really released in the public for people.

well when the mod moves it to software it wont be a problem then will it...........

thanks responses all. Looks like i found what i want, and we're putting a chipboard camera in my computer speaker. The grate has large enough holes to see my seat, and we can just run the power supply wire along the other computer wires. Then just setup our dvr to record on motion only, and we'll be set.

I'd just get a little quick-cam thing and stick it on the desk somewhere. Of course you'd have to have it recording on a different computer or they'd see if when they used yours. But easiest thing to do is put on a Bios Password but make sur eyou don't forget it or you're screwed.

You can get logger type programs that take screenshots every so many seconds, record what programs are being used, etc. Just do some searching.
