Keyboard sometimes doesn't fully work w/ languages?

This is a VERY strange problem that I'm having.

I have English and a foreign language installed on XP. Sometimes, regardless of which language I'm using, the top number keys -between ~ and - will not work along with their SHIFT counterparts.

I have no idea but somehow they seem to work after a while or I must be pressing some type of magical unlocking key sequence. This did not happen before, any idea what might be the cause and solution?

It is a desktop.

okay, does it happen when you are using one program or random programs?

Random programs. I kid you not, sometimes I walk away and come back and everything works again. And then, out of the blue they stop working.

hmm, have you checked the event viewer to see if anything is throwing up a system error during that time? what Antivirus,antispyware,firewall do you use?

i know alt+shift usually switches between the languages...

No errors during those times. I'm using Avast anti-virus and no firewall.

get Comodo installed, what about antispyware?
