I have a found all of the other keyboard shortcuts in the world but not one for opening IE via the keyboard if you are at the desktop? I also tried right clicking the IE shortcut I have in my quick launch bar and editing the shortcut line in there to ctrl + alt + N for example and it still won't work?

I just want to be able to quickly open IE from the keyboard? Help!!!

It has been my experience that you need a shortcut to the program on your desktop also for the Ctrl + Alt + x shortcuts to work. So I ended up with a bunch of shortcuts on my desktop I didn't want just so I could use keyboard shortcuts. And then I found that if you Hide them from the desktop they no longer work. So I just said fvck the kb shortcuts since they aren't implemented very well!

Most keyboards these days have a bunch of extra buttons at the top - one of those is the Web/Home key that opens your default browser to its default home page. The keyboard driver usually needs to be installed for that to work.

Good idea - but most keyboards DONT have that :p

You have an IE icon somewhere on your start menu (unless you specifically deleted it), right click it and assign it a shortcut key

KB shortcuts work if they are in your start menu. They don't need to be on your desktop.

I just tried this and it worked. Navigate your way to Internet Explorer in the menu and right click on it, then left click on "Properties". In the resulting dialog box the "shortcut key" box will read "None". Click in this box and then press "Ctrl" or "Alt" and the key you want IE to open with.

That is all you need, no desktop shortcuts required

if IE is your default browser, just hit windows key-R and type the url.

None of this is working except windows key + r, then web address. I first tried just canging the shortcut key in the IE icon that I have in the quick launch bar and got nothing. Then I tried changing it in the IE icon in Start--> Programs--IE, with no luck. Then I created a link in the Start menu and got nothing, and finally put a shortcut on the desktop with the kb keys set and still nothing? I'm on XPsp2, classic theme/start menu....any more ideas?

And It's on my notebook so I don't have the fancy hot keys at the top like some kb's do....

Right click on your browser icon shortcut, go to properties, and click on shortcut tab, assign shortcut key combination in the 'shortcut key' field
