keyboard problem

i have a standard MS keyboard on a PS/2 port, which is converted from the old keyboard port, on a Tyan Trinity 400 (S1854) running at PIII 833 with 256 megs of ram, Radeon 64 VIVO, Soundblaster live and other unimportant stuff. I run mainly Win XP and Win 98SE for games.

I have a problem when rebooting WinXP. When I restart the computer and want load Win Xp, I am able to choose which OS (98SE or xp) with the keyboard. However, once it starts loading, my keyboard does not function at all. The num lock light doesn't go on and off and the keyboard doesn't respond. Is there any way to have my keyboard function each time i restart?

Keep in mind:

1- i have to shut down the comp in order to reboot instead or restarting.
2- I have used WinME in place of Win98 and Win2000 in place of WinXp.

suggestions are much appreciated
