Keyboard not functioning...

Hi, This has happened a few times since yesterday: After I switched on my comp, the keyboard didn't function. The power LED on the keyboard was on, but I just can't type anything or do anything with the keyboard; also the num lock LED was off. I restarted the machine, sometimes a couple of times, the num lock LED came on, and it worked again. So what could be the prob? Keyboard or the PS/2 port? (yeah I'm still using PS/2) Thanks!
 
Maybe both. I had an optical mouse that began to stop for bursts. Eventually, it just didn't work. The PS/2 port and the mouse are now out of commission. You may have some thing like that. I have no idea why this happened, so don't ask.
