Hi,

Just installed Windows 7 on a drive
I still have Windows XP in the computer and that is why i need to use the boot menu to switch back xp and 7.

However, today when i try to select "earlier windows" it seems that the keyboard is either locked or not active until i successfully login to the desktop (win7)

why is it? Now i can't choose between xp and 7, i am forced to wait 30 seconds and boot into win7.

This isn't an OS issue. This is a BIOS/hardware issue. Punting to General Hardware.

If you have a USB keyboard (like most people do these days), some motherboards won't recognize them until you've booted into the OS. I have this problem on my Abit P35 Pro. I have to plug in a p/s2 keyboard to get into my BIOS, etc. if I need to do anything prior to the OS loading. Very annoying, but I don't know of a work around.

Right - the Legacy USB feature in BIOS is the key.

Well, there you go. I learn something new every day. I already implemented the "fix" on my system. Of course, I needed the P/S2 keyboard to make the change in the BIOS, but everything was good after that. Fixed a problem I'd given up on. Many thanks!
