Keyboard error

My keyboard and mouse freeze pretty soon after I restart. Then when trying to reboot, it says "Keyboard error. Keyboard not found." "Press DEL to enter setup." I resart and it boots into Windows, and two minutes later the mouse/keyboard freeze again. Is this a hack?
tds-3 scan = negative
norton 2004 = negative
free zone alarm
windows firewall enabled
SP1 updated
giant spyware = negative

i tried replace the keyboard and mouse with the old ones to no avail. Thinking about reformatting and reinstalling. I could try knoppix or lindows, but i don't have a vga cable as my displays are digital. wtf?

Sorry for the double post. I'll gladly pay a bandwidth tax.

Do you have a PS2 or USB keyboard and mouse? I've seen dead ps2 motherboard controllers, this is a possibilty. If it's USB, did you verify the internal connections? Is USB enabled in the BIOS? Did you try a secondary keyboard and mouse?

Thanks. Yeah, I tried USB, secondary keyboard and mouse. Maybe the plug housing got loose from the motherboard. I am starting to think it's a hack, because when I disconnect the ethernet, the mouse and keyboard freeze within 5 seconds after all the programs load after windows starts, and I've been getting lots of spam, a trojan dl'er, a keylogger, trojan ports open, etc. in the last two weeks. Right before the mouse/keyboard freeze, there is some internet traffic. I am using the free Zone Alarm, so I can't see the some 50 programs that are authorized. I guess i'll read the logs. I thought that I was well protected with all the defense s/w I use.

Update: I flashed the CMOS thing. It might be adead battery. Still have the problem. In the last two days, I installed Half Life 2, Powerstrip and Fraps. They might have fudged with some settings. sometimes if the mouse freezes, the keyboard will still work, and I can tab and arrow around the screen. I am re-installing windows now. If that doesn't work, I am going to buy a new mobo.

Update: The problem seemed to be a bad mobo - ECS 755-A2 burned out in a month and may have damaged two WD IDE HD's. Hope that helps.
