Keyboard error or No keyboard present

Ok aside from not having the keyboard attached, what could cause this error. I just built this computer and after installing NT I get this error on boot up randomly but often. The motherboard is a p3v4x. 256 megs of NEC 133 ram. Tried a 550 procesor and a 266. On the 266 though, I had to use the 300 setting because it doesnt have an option for 266. any thoughts?

Anything sitting on your keyboard? Papers overhanging your esc key, maybe? Happens to me occasionally, I guess it's the price you pay for having a messy desk. How 'bout a bad keyboard cord? Got another keyboard to try?

I tried different keyboards, still no luck still... I keep hitting the reset button, I keep praying that it works and recognizes the keyboard, and yes, I have checked for the obvious... it is securely attached to the port and nothing is on the keyboard keys. It recognizes it after about 2 dozen tries (if I am lucky), and when I reboot, the process starts all over again.

If the problem isn't the keyboard then perhaps the PS2 connector on the motherboard is flaky. When you say it happens on boot up, do you mean it's an error once NT is running or you get the error during POST?

Yes, the error happens upon start up, it says "Keyboard error or no keyboard present", right after it checks how much system RAM and SCSI periphials. In Post it does not recognize it...

I just wanted to thank you guys for all of your inputs, it really helped me alot. And yes, by changing the setting in the bios, it solved the problem. Violia! No more stupid "keyboard error/keyboard missing" messages. Once again, thanks guys, hopefully I will return the favor by helping you or anyone with a situation, providing that I am in the position that I do know how to solve the problem. =0)

Ok here I am back again! The freaking keyboard error is popping up again. WTF? Changing the cycles cures the problem for a while, but it comes back again. I havent tried the F1 Key when this happens, because it is going through the cycle of working at the moment. What does F1 Key supposed to do? Could this be a Motherboard defect or something? This is ridiculous. Thanks

I think the motherboard is probably screwy, but that f1 message I was talking about is one of those dumb things that computer people do, how am I suppose to press f1 when my keyboard isnt detected! 🙂
