This one's got me a bit stumped.
On this particular PC, I hit WIN+S (to open Search), then started to type "Power Opt" to open Power Options under Control Panel.
Can't seem to do it. Nothing comes out in the search box when I type.
I can open Notepad using the Mouse, and then type all of the keyboard characters OK.
If I open File Explorer, the FILE menu is highlighted, and hitting TAB repeatedly, does NOT cycle down through the different panels.
It's a Logitech K270 or K210 keyboard + mouse RF combo. I've tried turning it off and then on again, and removing the dongle and re-inserting it.
It does have an Asus RT-AC68U-family router perched on top of the PC in a Mesh configuration, but like I said, it seems like a software issue, as the mouse works fine without interference with the same dongle, and I can type inside Notepad.
Edit: Let me try another wired keyboard.
Edit: Yep, same behavior with a wired keyboard. I can hit things like CTRL+ESC, or WIN+S, or ALT+F4,. and those work. Just no "normal" typing in the search box.
Edit: Found a YT "Fix video".
Seems like I should try that. For some reason, when I updated Windows 10 to 1809 on this box, using the Upgrade Assistant, it never deployed the "Apps". I'm missing some of the stock icons along the taskbar, like Mail and Store. So maybe Search didn't get installed fully either, since then.
Edit: Looks like I need to re-install Windows 10 from scratch with 1809? Neither of those Powershell \commands shown in the video worked for me.
