Hey, since I turned on my PC this morning my keyboard has been acting strangely.

In chrome, the control button cycles the open tabs in reverse order. The B button opens Windows Media Player...those are really the only 2 that seem affected and I have no idea what is causing it

Need to know what kind of keyboard you have, and how it is connected to the machine.

Without the information, I would guess an application for your keyboard has options to assign different functions for the buttons.

Or, you have an annoying virus.

It's just a regular ol Logitech K120, connected via USB. It doesn't come with any software, it's just plug and play.

I ran one malware scan, nothin...now running a virus scan

OK, cool. Does the problem occur only in Chrome? If you shut down Chrome, does the B button still open Media Player? If it does, reboot the computer and don't start Chrome. Is the B button still having the issue?

Yep B still opens Windows Media Player without Chrome being opened. I've rebooted, not started chrome, and the B button still opens WMP.

Sounds like you might have a stuck Shift/Ctlr/Windows key. To verify, you could look up the keyboard shortcuts for your OS, and seeing if there is something there.

Hmm it seems that Win+b = Go to first item in system tray. Not sure why that'd be WMP though, I don't have it pinned or anything. I removed my Win keys, as well as Control and Alt keys, and cleaned the area but B still opens WMP.

Uhh well now the 2 button on the top also cycles tabs backwards as does left control. ~ now opens the calculator...

No lol, though I guess that's the obvious next step. I ordered a mechanical keyboard, as it was on sale + rebate and I figure I've gone through so many membrane keyboards that I coulda bought a mechanical which probably last longer...but it wont be here for a few days...either gonna try to live with it for now or just find a cheapo $5-$10 keyboard for the interim

Personally I would just run to Wal-Mart and get a cheapo to test with. Wouldn't have an issue returning it anyway. Based on what I have read, that is an odd combination of keys to have the odd behavior.

What OS?

Yeah it's really odd...I've had keyboards break or get water damaged or whatever before but none ever did something like this. Especially odd that different buttons started doing different things.

It's Windows 7 Professional.

Must be odd if I am the only one replying, lol (off work today). Let us know how the new keyboard goes.

Great OS BTW.

Yeah I couldn't find anything via google searching or on other forums about this kind of problem either. Will probably get a cheap keyboard tomorrow and test it out.

Thanks for replying and helpin me brainstorm :p

Looks like it was indeed the keyboard...got a cheap one and the problems not occurring. Not sure how the other one got damaged...oh well, thanks

Glad you have one working now. Yeah, that is weird. The keyboard on the controller in my lab is circa 1998 and the space bar is the only thing giving me issues. (have to really mash the thing). Ehh, they don't make them like they used to.
