Well, that leaves about 8 more guys refuting Kerry's heroism.

It seems like Kerry joined the boats when they were doing "non-combat patrols" and then shortly after that they had a mission re-assignement. Perhaps he wanted to be in country but out of harm's way?

Anyways, I'm surprised that this whole refutation isn't in the mainstream media. Kerry's peeps are calling it the lowest political stunt in history but it sounds like the what's good for the goose (m. moore) should also be able to be applied liberally to the gander.

Worth about .02,

It's starting to look like one of the ballsiest hatchet jobs in political (or at least Presidential) history.

I agree. I just hope the others have the heart to come forward.

2004: Retired Adm. Roy Hoffman: "John Kerry has not been honest," before another veteran, Adrian Lonsdale, finishes the thought, saying: "And, he lacks the capacity to lead."

1996: Retired Adm. Roy Hoffman: "As far as I was concerned, the war was won over there in that part for that period. And it was mainly won because of the bravado and the courage of the young officers that ran the boats, the SWIFT boats and the Coast Guard cutters and Senator Kerry was no exception. He was among the finest of those," he said in 1996.

I can see it now - there are 300 members, nevermind these lies....I bet about 5 guys gave written statements, and the others just signed on the dotted line to get their checks. This whole thing is pathetic.

My only question is how much money or free ketchup did he get from Heinz to retract his statement....I would be more willing to believe this change of heard was influenced$$$ rather than just good nature.

LOL. If you have a bunch of kids, that free ketchup might not look too bad :) Throw in the recipe for the 57 sauce and you have a deal ;)

Bozack my friend, don't be so willing to believe things because you want them to be true. From what I gather you feel you have valid reasons to oppose Kerry, stick to those reasons and don't become like Riprorin and lose your well earned credibility.

Go see the new comments by swiftboats. It seems the globe reporter lied. Not surprising since he was contracted to write the Kerry/Edwards book and is the same reporter who reported that Kerry had spoken to foreign leaders then changed his story laster...

Red, I don't necessarily believe this to be true however felt like playing devils advocate and getting it on the table...I do find it hard to believe that this late in the game someone as crucial as this just happens to have a change in heart though...

Lets try to avoid the personal attacks. This thread had nothing to with Rip, yet you for some reason seemed compelled to attack him. But thats OK I guess.. since.. well, we know why.

Look, I don't know if this is a ploy by these guys to draw more attention to the book or not, but the guy didn't really retract too much.

''I still don't think he shot the guy in the back," Elliott said. ''It was a terrible mistake probably for me to sign the affidavit with those words. I'm the one in trouble here."

The only thing he seems to be disagreeing with is the shot in the back part. Does that mean he still believes the rest to be true?

The Boston Globe Retractor does it again.

All the news that's print to fit. ... and sometimes they get caught with their pants down and BAM! time to retract, AGAIN....

Yeah you are a fine one to talk. All you do is criticize others posts and sling insults and that's all you do. Compared to you Rip is George Will!

Here's the obvious thing that nobody seems to be taking into account.

Eyewitness accounts are notoriously poor forms of evidence.

Studies have been done that show that people remember all kinds of things WRONG, and then when you suggest things to them, they say, "Oh yeah! That's it!" even if it is miles from the truth.

I am annoyed an disgusted that any of this is even an issue... I mean, we already know that all these guys saying, "As I recall" isn't worth poo. The only ones who MIGHT remember what Kerry did are the ones who were DIRECTLY and PERSONALLY affected by his actions. They have reason to have those memories remain clear and vivid, because they were 'in the moment'.

I hate to keep using this movie as an example, but damn P&N just seems to always refer to something answerable this fine work of art...

'12 Angry Men' is the answer to all of life's problems/issues!
