My 11 yr-old daugher and 14 yr-old son are all gaga over this skecth comedy show Key and Peele. While I appreciate it's multicultural bent, there is one part of the show that really sticks in my craw. It shows people smoking pot! The problem with this is that I sense it is making the drug use look cool to my impressionable kids. I am for freedom and all that but shouldn't there be a law outlawing the sexification of drugs on TV? I mean really, do they need to be pimping this shit to my kids? It is really starting to bug me.....

Have they ever seen anyone drink a cup of coffee in the morning or have a beer? If so, they've seen people use drugs. I wouldn't worry too much about it, personally. If you are concerned about it, well, you're their parent, you make the rules about what they can watch.

Have you not looked at any popular culture in the past 50 years?

This is nothing new.

Um yes it is. I have not once seen a person smoke pot on a TV sketch comedy show. It has never happened before. Somewhere along the line it must have been legalized or something.

If you don't want them watching something then don't let them.

I am not one of the douche parents that limits his kids' freedoms. I let them pretty much do whatever the heck they want as long it doesn't harm anybody. The only line I have right now is the drug one. I don't want them to throw their lives away on that shit.

My point is that popular culture has sung the praises of drug use since the hippy days. You may not have seen them actually smoking, but the message was there.

How about you act like a parent and have an open and honest discussion about drug use with your kids so you don't have to worry about a tv show swaying their opinions.

Kids need boundaries because they sure as shit will have them when they are adults. They need to learn that this is how the world works.

As far as letting them do what they want unless they harm anybody, you realize that they qualify as "somebody", right?

I saw a Murder She Wrote where someone got murdered before, though.

And you realize that can develop into a LIFETIME of resentment of the parent by the child right? Trying to stop kids from doing things makes them want to do it more.

I just hate this show putting it into my kid's head in the first place. Right now my kids think drugs are UNCOOL. Shows like this shatter that perception.

I guess I'm a little different. I don't like the fact that you can show people get tortured and killed on TV shows; but smoking a joint is a problem?

If you don't like the content it is your job as a parent to not allow your kids to watch it. Do your job and let me do mine as a parent, we do not need more retarded laws.

So your afraid that your kids might resent you for life because you were being a good parent and instead want someone else to, by force of law, do it for you?

I just hate this show putting it into my kid's head in the first place. Right now my kids think drugs are UNCOOL. Shows like this shatter that perception.

I have a really great idea, don't let your kids watch that show. You know, try that whole parenting thing out.

How about you restrict your kids from watching it if you don't approve of it?

I thought that's the kinda thing that parents do?

Wat? Kids need restriction/discipline.

Lest they grow up like you.

Or better yet, explain to them why smoking pot at a young age inhibits brain development in a similar way that smoking tobacco or drinking alcohol does. Explain to them that we don't put age limits on these things arbitrarily or because we don't want them to have fun.

Why the fuck do you care about people smoking pot on TV when there's sex and rape and murder all over entertainment? Cherry pick much?

What are you, a conservative? ;)

The only answer is to turn off Comedy Central. There are a ton of other things they air that is worse than smoking pot.

The problem is that drugs ARE cool and the parenting fail here is lying to your children about drugs.
