keurig owners, are they worth it?

I'm itching to get the keurig kit they sell at Costco for $139.

Seems to be the best deal around.

Includes the Platinum brewer and 60 K-cups as well as a resuable cup to put your own grinds into.

For those of you that own one, do you find it was worth the money or in hindsight do you a little regret spending the money?

I don't own one, but I know several people who do and they all love them. Personally I think they're stupid because you're forced into those dumb cups, but I didn't realize they sold one that you can fill with your own grounds - that sounds like teh way to go.

I'm a french press sorta guy, i've migrated away from machines, otherwise i'd probably get one.

Being that it's 4:30AM when I posted this, asking about a machine that makes coffee, I'm confused 🙁

I need COFFEE!

Seeing as it's 2 AM here and I need sleep, your coffee may not help. 😀

edit: aka. Fail attempt at ATOT joke?

Single cup coffee makers are for wimps. You a whimp?

Got a Keurig for Christmas and it changed my life. I am a French Press owning coffee snob and I'll admit it is the greatest kitchen appliance since the microwave. Going to make another cup right now.

Sums up my experience.

My wife is a flavored coffee fiend. She loves the hazelnut and french vanilla flavors. I can't stand them. Keurig fixes that. She makes her cup, I make mine. Done.

I still french press on the weekends because I like the routine. But on weekdays the Keurig is King. Sign up for the subscription on Amazon for the 50 packs. They are like $18 for 50.

Only complaints I have are the following
1) I've got the one that makes two sizes. Sometimes it flakes out and the "tall pour" actually does a short one. It'll do that for a week and then go back to normal.

2) I feel very environmentally irresponsible for all the cups that get thrown away 🙁

3) The "make your own" insert sucks and makes a terrible cup of coffee

i completely disagree....

Being in Colorado, there's no Dunkin' Donuts i can go to.... the make your own allows me to make my dunkin' donuts coffee at home... and it tastes just as good as the store.

That's because Dunkin coffee is watered down weaksauce.

I like a nice rich Sumatra or Guatemalan and you just can't get them right with the Keurig insert.

Just get yourself a small french press. Much cheaper and makes better coffee.

Takes slightly longer to prepare though, but it is still easy to make/clean.

Mine flakes from time to time too. Sometimes takes a while to brew, sometimes spits grinds into the cup. You have to run white wine vinegar through it once a month or so to clean out the innards. Keurig replaced mine just from a phone call and didn't even have to send the old one back. Great company.

They are great when there are people that like different drinks. Hot tea followed by hot chocolate followed by decaf coffee followed by regular coffee and so on.

visited my brother and he had one

nice, but underkill for me and my wife's normal coffee drinking. felt bad tossing down 3-4 of them in the AM, so I made a cup to get me going till I could hit Dunkin

when my wife is prego I might get one, so I can make a cup then drink the rest I need at work so my wife isnt in agony from not getting any. coffee made her mom ubernauseous when she smelled coffee, and the kcups make the odor of coffee go away fast.

that or the lil dispense into a thermal mug ones, or a french press.

was nice to have a cup of flavored coffee with some cream when I wasnt feeling another cup of black coffee on the weekend though, without having to drink a whole pot...

We just got one about a month ago from Costco. Love the thing. Use it every morning.

Now if i could only find some Etheopian coffee k-cups.

when you do your own ground thing, adjust the grind and amount you put in the cup, play with it till you get it the way you like, and then it is even better then using a regular k-cup.

These machines are great, just remember that the k-cups can get expensive, which is where the refillable one come in handy!

I don't drink coffee my wife does, she loves her Keurig. Most of those trying to out brew it are failing miserably anyway...she will sometimes stop at some of the better coffee places for a gourmet cup.

The Keurig's big benefit is variety and time savings.

Eh, we have one but stopped using it after we got a French press. A Keurig might be nice when you're single, but when you make coffee for two it's kind of a pain in the ass. Especially when you want to use your own grounds instead of the overpriced K-cups because you have to take the thing out, clean it, and refill it for each cup.

On the other hand, one of the larger units with a big water reservoir might be a bit more convenient. Ours is a mini one that only holds enough water for one cup at a time so you have to clean it AND refill it for each cup. I guess if you always buy the cups and get one of the larger ones it might be nice. Not worth it IMO though.
