CAD - your just to rigid in your thought processes.

you've got to lighten up, and understand that "yes" sometimes really means "no"
"no" sometimes means "yes"
..even at the same time, about the same things...

you've got to understand that "Black" contains grey,
and if you squint enough, "white" will appear grey,
so really, "Black" and "White" (since they are both grey) are the same under many circumstances.

you just represent an old fashioned way of looking at the world.
that just doesn't cut it anymore with the uber-cognoscenti that post here in P&N.

study the definition below--you will be tested on it many times in the near future....

nu·ance ( P ) Pronunciation Key (näns, ny-, n-äns, ny-)
n.
A subtle or slight degree of difference, as in meaning, feeling, or tone; a gradation.
Expression or appreciation of subtle shades of meaning, feeling, or tone: a rich artistic performance, full of nuance.

i favor a rich artistic performance

Well, if the Republicans hadn't gone and made their amendments (provisions that have been blocked by both the Clinton *and* the Bush administrations), then Kerry would have voted YEA on the final version.

Got it yet, CkG??

So you admit he didn't vote for the bill? :D

Exactly - he didn't and no amount of spin from you or his campaign will change that.

CkG

Jesus Christ, CkG.

Let's go back to Kerry's own website:

FACT: In 1995 John Kerry voted twice for the Helms Burton law; but voted against it on final passage in 1996 when House Republicans insisted on an unworkable lawsuit provision that would clog our courts and prevent some claims from ever being settled. He preferred to support the existing international claims tribunals. Since passing the law, the lawsuit provision has never gone into effect because the Bush administration, and the Clinton administration before it has blocked it from taking effect. The Miami Herald, which favored passage of Cuban sanctions at the time, called the lawsuit provisions "perverse." [Editorial, Miami Herald, 10/20/1995]

That's exactly as it happened.

Boom.

Also, Cowboy Bush did actually grow up in Massachusetts, though he pretends to be a rootin' tootin' ranchero kinda boy. He went to school at Andover Academy....A friend of mine was in the same class. Says he was stupid then too. :D

Yep - I keep forgetting that "nuance" thing. Maybe I should call up Clinton to see if he has any books in his library about it.:p

Anyway Conjur - he voted against it. His voting "foragainst" that Bill was not being tough on Castro because ultimately he voted against the bill. He can't have it both ways.

CkG

Kerry never said he tried to have it both ways.

He just wanted to make it clear that he opposed the changes the Republicans tried to ram (and did) into the bill. And, Kerry wasn't the only one voting against it. 21 others did including 4 Republicans.

That's not what he said. That is the spin and excuses coming from his campaign after he told people he voted for that legislation which he knew was VERY misleading at best. And the others who voted against it probably aren't trying to say they voted for it either;)

THey have never passed a clean bill in congress. They have to shove some extras onto every bill. So they take the bill declaring war on terrorists and add a provision to cut senior citizen drug benefits. THen if you vote no youre a pro terrorist.

Often a bills own sponsors vote against a bill because of the tack ons.

Agreed. But CkG's blindness caused by his head being up Bush's ass doesn't see that.

Exactly.

Kerry voted twice for the initial versions of the bill.
Kerry voted against the final version of the bill which was modified by the Republicans.

If you don't understand how bills are voted upon I suggest brushing up on your Civics....and I don't mean your Honda.

The problem is that it could be called the same bill.
Nope, the problem is Kerry who uses the English language like Clinton did...what he says has no concrete meaning..it means what ever he wants it to mean according to whatever audience he is addressing.

what this post really reflects is the fact that Kerry's statements have no absolute meaning whatsoever. That's not exactly lying, but it also not exactly telling the truth.
it's a nuanced approach to speaking.

where i come from we call that being a bullsh!tter.

Where I'm from, someone who says something outwardly wrong, gets called out on it, then conveniently ignores it is called a bullsh!tter. ;)

Nope, the problem is morons who don't understand how the bill process works in Congress.

Again, from Kerry's website:
