i'd like to see a prominent role for Al Sharpton - cabinet or supreme court.

(j/k)
Damn....I nearly had a stroke before I saw your (j/k)

Folks still take shots at Al but these last 5 years or so Sharp has come around. He's become very sound in the way he approaches things. Not the typical rhetoric. He was one of the 3-4 who actually made some sense during the Dem Primary. I can see him doing some good things in a certain role or compacity. He's doing a nice job. Al's alright in my book, as long as he continues to go the way he has.

Wonder if McCain would server as Sec of Defense?

I doubt it. If I were a betting man, I'd lay money that the RNC has already promised him their support as a 2008 presidential candidate in exchange for his campaign work on behalf of President Bush, and he won't jeopardize that by joining a Kerry cabinet.

Wesley Clark for Defense - I'd actually prefer McCain but I don't think he would do it.
Sharpton for Health & Human Services.
Janet Napolitano for AG.
Howard Dean for Homeland Security.
Pepper some veterans from Clinton's cabinet for some of the remaining positions to provide some career-service continuity.

the democrates would never give McCain secretary of state. it would set him up way too nicely for his '08 run for president (hopefully).

I'd like to see Carol Mosely Braun (sp) in something prominent, though.

(Bill Clinton, incidently, probably is ineligable for Sec. of State 😛)

Wesley Clark for Sec. of Defense. He did an oustanding job running NATO. He knows how to wage war effectively, knows when a war can be won and when it can't (something a president needs to hear) and knows how to run a military in such a way that fear of it can avoid war. The man was an absolute surgeon during Bosnia. He is also a man who prefers peace to war. The exact opposite of McNamara and Paul Wolfowitz.

I haven't really thought about any other positions.

I see a lot of people here bashing Colin Powell. I'm not going to be one of those. I believe Powell is a very intelligent man and if used properly he could have done great things for our State Department. Unfortunately he was put in a no-win situation when he was told to lie to the U.N. that left him ineffective and without credibility as our ambassidor. It really pisses me off. He was an outstanding resource that we've squandered.

I'm not sure. Technically the Sec of State is fourth in the presidential line of succession, and obviously Clinton already served 2 terms as President, but that alone doesn't necessarily mean he couldn't be SecState, just that he couldn't be President (just as, for example, our current SecLabor, Elaine Chao, is ineligible in the line of succession because she is not a native-born American).

I just hope they keep ashcroft in the game! If not for anything else but to sing at press conferences, jazz the crowd up!

I have to agree with conjur about clark. I would like to see clark in the cabinet as sec of defense or state. He is a bright hard-working guy with lots of experience. Probably has alot of respect outside of the US as well since he was the NATO Comander. Might help with negotiations.

Darkhawk is right as well. We need people in the cabinet that are going to challenge and complement the president not folks that are just going to be yesmen. Id like to see someone with some good business sense in there and start running the government like it was he own small business. Cut costs and increase efficieny.

Billy

Business cuts costs by laying people off, exporting jobs to cheap labor areas, cutting employee health care and other benefits, and cutting the quality of their products.

Do you really want your government ran like that?

Nah, they already export jobs and spend about 500 billion more than they bring in. :Q 😛

Why would we want a change? 😉

I won't count my chickens before they are hatched. Kerry needs to keep drawing distinctions between what he would do as president and what GWB has done. I would wait until Nov2 to before even thinking about who's who.

DonVito:

The 22nd Amendment, as I recall, refers to "election" only and by exclusion doesn't include succession, so I would assume Clinton could become President by succession. 🙂

Now wouldn't that make a lot people jump for joy?

Edit: Uh, the emphasis should be on "I recall". 🙂 And I don't recall much accurately these days.

That is right - I recall that Ford would have been able to serve 2 full terms in addition to the remainder of Tricly Dick's had he been elected.

Let's say Kerry wins the election. Who would you like to see in his Cabinet? Just curious what Kerry supporters think his Cabinet would look like.

Me

I'd like to see Gen. Clark as Sec'y of Defense but I'm not sure if he's eligible.
Why would there be a problem with Clark's elibibility?
I must admit to not knowing about this but I was told by someone that a General has to be retired from the Pentagon for a certain number of years before being able to serve as Sec'y of Defense.
