This is NOT a lie - but I don't see what Kerry will do to change it.

At worst, it's rhetoric.

It's FAR from a lie.

You're really grasping at straws now, etech.

at least Kerry's lie didn't cause the deaths of American solders

I love this.. so the bullets of the Iraqi terrorists who shot them have nothing to do with their deaths? Its all George Bush? Oh thats right, if we wouldn't have invaded unjustly, they wouldn't be killing Americans.. yeah right.. they wouldn't be killing them in Iraq, and they would probably be civilians instead.

So Al Queda was going around blowing up things and shooting people before we invaded. Interesting.

Maybe it is a Skull and Bone thing.

The illusion of choice is the one of the plutocracy's more insidious traps.

"The lesser of two Weevils", indeed (Master & Commander). Who do you prefer - the snout weevil or the seed weevil? 😀

The fact of the matter is that it's a lot harder to buy a home in a major city today than it was 20-30 years ago.

Absolutely not true. Home ownership is at an all time high. Stats here.

....and to Etech: Interesting how nuance escapes the comprehension of the intellectual elites, eh? Seems as if some people are no different than Bush. 😉

I believe it was BOBDN, our now banned but former highly esteemed liberal walking dictionary, who once told me that the definition of a lie was simply "an untruth. Whether or not you know the truth."

You mean like those Civilians who were celebrating in the streets of Bahgdad yesterday after the car bomb that killed a bunch of Westerners? Gee that would be too fscking bad!

Evidently my point was just a little too subtle for you Conjur. But since you seem to revel in your ignorance, how about I don't clarify myself on this point for you.........

So many Bush haters in here.

it has nothing to do with like or dislike of bush (as far as i can see)
but more to do with the validity of the statement "kerry lied"
(ok, we will assumed he did lie, but is this really a lie?)
the OP has yet to truly respond to the most rational explanation:
it was a general statement that will not be true across the board.
he also has not yet responded to the more defining questions of what his situation is.
i dont want to make it really personal...but if he is saying "i can do it" i would like to know more of the specifics.
as asked earlier: did his wife work at all during the marriage? has he been planning for a family since he began working his first paper route? does he have another source of money that might not be particularly usual (ie: vast lottery winnings, inheritance, etc)?

although, my real point makes the above questions sort of moot.
its not a lie, its a broad statement about the state of things. it might be wrong, but being incorrect is not a lie.

Democrat John Kerry, trying to blunt recent good news about job creation

""Twenty years ago, middle class families with one parent working used to be able to buy a home and pay for college," Kerry said in the statement. "But today, two incomes barely cover the basics."

That is a lie and some people will argue endlessly over whether Pres. Bush lied and are oh so concerned about it.

Are you as concerned when your anti-candidate lies?

I have sent my son to college, have two paid off vehicles, my house is paid off and my wife does not have a paying job. My job is middle class. It can be done.

Kerry lied.

My wife doesn't have a paying job and we're doing fine.

The house is paid off, we have no debt, and the kids to go to private school.

"Doesn't matter, Kerry said it can't be done. I am positive that I am not that only one as many other people I know have done it."

Funny thing, Internet Explorer has this feature where you press "crtl+F" and it searches the page for words. When I put in "can't" it doesn't come up.

Where did Kerry say it can't be done in this article?

Housing - up
Healthcare -up
Education- up

Median income? Latest figure I could come up is that median income is down.

Try to live in New England and lose an income and have those commitments. Well you can always sing this lively tune.

-------------------------High Hopes

Next time your found, with your chin on the ground
There a lot to be learned, so look around

Just what makes that little old ant
Think he?ll move that rubber tree plant
Anyone knows an ant, can?t
Move a rubber tree plant

But he?s got high hopes, he?s got high hopes
He?s got high apple pie, in the sky hopes

So any time your gettin? low
?stead of lettin? go
Just remember that ant
Oops there goes another rubber tree plant

When troubles call, and your back?s to the wall
There a lot to be learned, that wall could fall

Once there was a silly old ram
Thought he?d punch a hole in a dam
No one could make that ram, scram
He kept buttin? that dam

?cause he had high hopes, he had high hopes
He had high apple pie, in the sky hopes

So any time your feelin? bad
?stead of feelin? sad
Just remember that ram
Oops there goes a billion kilowatt dam

All problems just a toy balloon
They?ll be bursted soon
They?re just bound to go pop
Oops there goes another problem kerplop

Hmmm, you consider that generalized statement a lie? Hmmmm, that tells me something about you etech. Furthermore, living in OK on two incomes is not the same as living on one of the coasts with two incomes. Try doing it in SoCal where the average crapbox house costs $400K+ and then tell me how it works out.

NAILED him - you should start your own talk radio call in show etech - the public should know about these things that the liberal media just glazes over. You got the drop on Kerry 4-shore with this whopper. The Kerry team better call out damage control on the double-quick before Rush gets ahold of this.

Nuance anyone? Get with the program Winston, we have to look beyond what was actually said and look at what he *really* meant......... It's in there, you just have to look deeper.

I know what Kerry precisely means. He is using factual references to garner support from blue collar workers. Will he be able to do anything about it? Probably not. He will most likely have a Republican Congress who would rather see the country fail than a Democrat bring about reform. No matter since both sides play that game.

As far as nuance? This thread isn't about Kerry, it's about other threads in this forum and the interaction between forum members. You are smart enough to know that. You are intellectually elite. 😛

But, but, that's exactly how I know that Bush is a piece of sh!t. But who's going to buy into that except others of us 'gifted elite'.

You're a bad man, Winston, for letting the cat outta the bag. Conjur might now understand my adroit reply to Etech's pointed observation. Heaven knows I left a few clues in my original reply to, ahem, *link* my approval and express my understanding of Etech's point.

I know, I know, not fair is it? Some people believe I'm saying something when, in fact, I'm really saying something else altogether. Alas, seeing the forest through the trees can be somewhat taxing.....squinting like that can give someone a hammering headache. But if its one thing I've learned, it's that if I want to run with the elite, I've got practice what they preach, and nuance seems to be on the top of the list.

Its a "me too" world out there today Winston. I just wanna join the club.

Oh yeah, one other thing Winston. Since I'm a sponge and knowledge is my water, please do direct me to Kerry's "factual refrences". I'm particularly interested in finding out what constitutes "the basics". Also, if you've got something to give me in regard to the $9000 reduction in income for every new job created that replaced a previous job that was lost, I would, again, be most appreciative.

I certainly would be disappointed to find out your description of these "factual refrences" was made prior to witnessing their basis of fact, and ultimately be reported in error. Some people might consider that to be a lie. 😉

If there were a club, you would be in it. I don't exclude jews, blacks, liberals, conservatives or even people who dont know not to trade in an S4 sor a lesser car 😛

I wonder if the 9k firgure is accurate. I know nedian income is down, and the costs of ecucation, housing and health care are up. Around here, homes have roughly tripled in price in the last 8 years. Good if your are selling. Sucks if you are buying.

Hopefully Kerry gets his shot at the Presidency. If he screws up, I will hang him too. I don;t like Kerry. I like Bush a lot less.
