July 31 - Coming out of the Democratic National Convention in Boston, Sen. John Kerry now holds a seven-point lead over President George W. Bush (49 percent to 42 percent) in a three-way race with independent Ralph Nader (3 percent), according to the latest NEWSWEEK poll The poll was taken over two nights, both before and after Kerry's acceptance speech. Respondents who were queried after Kerry's Thursday night speech gave the Democrat a ten-point lead over Bush. Three weeks ago, Kerry?s lead was three points.

Just wait till Bin Laden is captured during the RNC or right before the elections, and Bush will win.

Don't worry ...

- Bin Laden will not be caught during the RNC or before the election. But,

- Kerry will hand the election to Bush when Kerry fails to materialize on any of the promises he made in his long-winded speech at the DNC.

politicians have always made empty promises......it's just the way it goes. Bush has been spouting nothing but lies and empty promises for his entire presidential career, and people still vote for him. I don't see your point.

Doesn't Kerry need to be elected before he can fail to materialize on any of those promises? Seems like Bush has one-upped Kerry already b/c Bush has been President for 3 1/2 years and most of his promises are as hollow as his Vietnam record.

- RNC would put Kerry and Bush about even.

- Bush and Kerry debate, Bush dramatically drops 9 points

- Election day, Kerry wins the popular vote by far, Diebold machines 'malfunction' and steals the election for Bush.

Hurray for democracy!

Osama is above capture, they need him out there to be the boogy man, to justify their greedy policies. OBL is the new Goldstein.

How does one "materialize" on a promise? Is it like a transporter pod or something? I mean, one can materialize a promise, but materializing on a promise is a whole different ballgame. I'm voting for the first candidate who proves he can do that . . . 'cause superpowers, dude, that would be cool . . . and by cool, I mean sweet! :p;)

Almost done. They're in stage 4 now, "depression." The final stage, "acceptance" will come when Bush has the rug swept from under him come November.

Umm, I think bush has went through many of his promises, He did promise to cut taxes, He did promise to attack contries that harbor terrorists.

Yes, there are some promises he has not kept, but I think he has done a good job trying to keep the ones he made. *Adorns Flamesuit* I do this because Anandtech, or at least the posters in this forum, are vastly liberal.

The only country he attacked that harbored terrorists was Afghanistan. He missed Pakistan, Saudia Arabia, Syria, Iran, and Libya.

Doubtful about the debate, i don't think Kerry is that great of a speaker, and i think W will hold his own this debating season..

I can't wait to see Cheney - Edwards..

Cheney will eat him alive, even though he is a lawyer, Cheney is tough. He did it for certain against Lieberman

I was at the Cheney-Lieberman debates, I was impressed by both of them (until I found out more about Cheney) and don't think either of them won. Much better and more intelligent debate than Bush-Gore.

That's why he needs a 2nd term - to finish what he started. :)

The RNC was expecting Kerry to have a 15% lead of Bush after the convention. Kerry had the third lowest convention bounce at 4%(the two lower ones were negative bounces). I predict it will be 45%/45% after the Republican Convention.

As for you saying John Kerry will dismantle Bush in the debates. Highly unlikely, good orater does NOT equal good debater. Its who has the best coaching, Im predicting 1-1-1.

Don't you just love the Republican strategists? Lower the standards for their own president, so when he does better they applaud him. Then, they say Kerry will receive a 15% lead, (knowing this election is so close and that neither convention will really net much gain for either candidate), and when he doesn't they say he underachieved.
I'll tell you this much though, for Kerry to have a 7 point lead, in this kind of a race, is not good news for Bush. The two have been within fighting distance for a long time, and if Kerry can keep this momentum he can ride it all the way to the White House. Remember, many key swing states have suffered enormous manufacturing job losses, and if the economy continues to tank then Bush is in real trouble. If Kerry can get Ohio and Pennsylvania, this election is OVER. Bush has no chance if he doesn't capture both of those states. Also, Florida looks like it will be going to Kerry as well. To be honest, I expect the popular vote to be very close, but in terms of the electoral college I think Kerry will just own Bush.

Uh he wont keep this "momentum" if he had a 7 point lead after both conventions yeah he would likely win for sure. However its going to be dead even or Bush over Kerry after the RNC Convention.
