What is kernel processor usage (as measured with windows system monitor) and how does it differ from other system utilisation parameters?
On my system it is often around 40% with everything except windows shut down - is this anything to worry about?
When I first open system monitor after a cold boot the value is low - around a couple of percent. Then, after I move the mouse, the value jumps up to around 40%, where it stays until the computer is shut down. However, if the mouse is moved again it drops down to only a couple of % but then shoots back up again when movement stops. Mouse is microsoft PS2 intellewheel type.
Measurements on windows resource meter all seem OK, and Sandra processor benchmarks are OK - so maybe the reading is an artefact, ie, a load of crap and the program isn't working properly?
System is: P3 733EB, CUSL2, 128Mb 133 ram, Win98-2, Fujitsu ATA66 7200 20Gig HDD, Ricoh CDRW
