I was just looking on Pricewatch because I was planning on picking up a second 72X Kenwood since mine has treated me so well...but it seems they are not available anymore?

You know, thinking about it i havent seen any of them either. Though i dont want to buy one, had a 42x drive and it died one friggin month after the warranty ran out.

I was in your position and I couldnt find them anywhere at all. Luckily I went to a local dealers website and it linked me to what I guess is their product provider, but anyway the site did have the truex 72 oem and retail. Now oddly enough I cant find it anywhere else, and on the site it lists the oem as 20 bucks more than the retail, but they do list them, and you could call to make sure they have them in stock. anyway heres the url. www.a1000.com just click on the us micro link, and search for kenwood, you wont find it under cdrom drives.

Something is fishy here, after checking kenwoods website there have been no press releases or any other type of info since mid march of last year.....
are they involved in some sort of lawsuit or something?

they have been discontinued.

new models including a truex burner and dvdrom are in process of development.

I've heard alot of bad stuff about them, but my 72x has been working great since I got it about 10 months ago. It's so quiet. Truly, I wish I could see how many of them really died, and how many just got the wrong firmware update (heard bad things about failing to use the special amd version with an amd system). The only cd-rom i've ever had die in less than 4 years of use, was a 52x creative, and it died after like 2 months of my little brother playing Diablo 2. I thought that was pretty sad, I went shopping around and found out no local retailer besides Best-Buy carried them because of the high RMA rate. Those companies had Kenwood 72X drives on the shelf though. This is why I am skeptical of people who say the Kenwoods are junk. I'm not asking to be flamed, I'm just stating my opinion on the matter.
To answer the title, no, there doesn't seem to be alot of them laying around. 🙂
