Kenwood Receiver worth the money?

Hey Guys,
I was recently looking at the THX Select Certified Kenwood VR-7070 or 7080. Anyone have an experience? The place I was looking had them for around 310 and 360 shipped pending on the model. Looks decent. Any experience or input?

I've got a VR-6060 and I can say they are excellent receivers for the money. Very good feature set, lots of power (Sound & Vision rated the VR-6070, the predecessor to the 7070, at 92 watts x 6 of actual power) and most importantly, great sound, especially for movies.

I've used many other receivers, and I think Kenwood stacks up quite well, especially as far as bang-for-the-buck.

Kenwood does make some decent receivers, but I'd suggest the usual Pioneer receivers too (wait for Glen to chime in), in your price range.

Both are very competent receiver manufacturers.

kenwood and pioneer are both ok at best

check out onkyo, you can get much better sound for not much more money...refurb txsr600's can be had for $300 all over the net

Kenwood makes very nice receivers. I've owned 2 for the past 10 years.

I'm a big Kenwood fan despite the fact I own $20k+ worth of audiophile equipment.

Blah. Onkyo is on par with Kenwood and Pioneer. IMO, receivers all sound basically the same - save your money, buy respected brands based on features and price, and spend extra money on the speakers. You WILL hear a difference with better speakers, but you probably won't notice any difference at all with a more expensive receiver.

My Kenwood is a bare-bones audio only, but its been clicking along wonderfully since I first bought it in 1993. It has basically been running for 12 hours a day every day for the last 10 years (put it on in the evenings and leave it until I wake up). I love it.

Harman-Kardon also makes some nice equipment. Check out http://www.harmanaudio.com/ for some good deals on refurbed equipment w/ full warranties. I'm also partial to Yamaha receivers. I don't think Yamaha makes a bad product in any of their fields of expertise.

yes...we will all take advice from someone with a 10 year old prologic receiver....

good sound starts at the source...period

Actually, the prices on refurbished H/K gear are a bit better from OneCall.

Probably the best deal available right now is the Denon 1603 receiver for $200. I don't have the details offhand right now, but it's in the hot deals forum.

I recommend harman / kardon... I have an old AVR-20 II and it works great... excellent quality, and fantastic sound output.. right now I am loking at replacing it with a Yamaha HTR-5660 just because Yamaha is cheaper lately. I can't afford another HK (not woth the extra price is my main gripe)

Yamaha
harman/kardon
surprisingly Kenwood is not too bad at all lately.
