It's so depressing seeing news like this, children need to see the world as it really is not through the lens of regressive religion. Hopefully there will be some backlash. I see the ACLU and the FFRF are already looking into legal action.

Kentucky’s evangelical Gov. Matt Bevin signs bill allowing public schools to teach from the Bible

http://www.salon.com/2017/06/28/ken...owing-public-schools-to-teach-from-the-bible/

Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin signed into law a bill that will allow courses on the Bible to be taught in public schools beginning on Friday. Overwhelmingly passed by Kentucky’s Republican-controlled state legislature, HB 128 gives Kentucky school boards the option to add elective courses on Bible literacy to their social studies curriculum.

Our governor is as useless as a rock but at least it's not a rock spouting religious craziness.

How about a bunch of these fucking backward-ass states just go ahead and form "Jesusland" and the rest of us can make "The United States of Canada" just like the nice graphic that floated around the web a few years back. We here in the USC will take all your pesky atheists, gays and "off color" folks, I think that would work well for both sides.

I would suggest going to different planets like the old Ray Bradbury story (either side, I'll leave if you don't want to) but there's that whole "technology hasn't gotten there thing".....

Canada annexes the coasts and becomes a bad ass set of lamb chops.

This won't last long. One of two things will happen.

It will get struck down directly. Separation church and state.
Struck down indirectly. Muslims will insist the Quoran be taught in school. Gov will refuse and we have government establishing an official religion strike down.

This is Kentucky. We are one of 4 states that have "In God We Trust" as part of our license plates. You can opt out for a non-gaudyGoddy plate.

Good, my kids will have less competition. Not that flyover staters are much competition anyway, but the more Bible they get instead of math, the less chance of being competitive in the modern world. Every little bit helps.

I died a little when the 2016 Kentucky travel guide came out and the Ark encounter made the cover.

So you're saying that you oppose the Trumpland transformation attempt?:D They're even too stupid to realize that even their fearless leader mocks their religion and God on a regular basis.

It's not stupidity at all. It's all driven by fear, hatred and selfishness. They have the same boogey men. Abortion. Birth Control. Gays. Science. Free thought. Dark people. He's a blunt instrument used to attack those.

Yes, because the disgusting mess of spoiled rotten children growing up to be dysfunctional millennials is far superior.

We need to teach chillens how to be decent citizens using the Ten Commandments as a baseline. If they wind up Christian so be it! :)

There's one rule that all of us should follow and that transcends any generation, race, color, or creed. It also happens to be the favorite color of our commander in chief. He could take a few lessons in it. I don't need 10. 1 is plenty.

Since it specifically mentions the Bible rather than "religious texts" it won't pass muster.

It is an elective class though and as long as all religions get equal support for teaching them it doesn't seem like a big thing to me.

We are in a global winner takes all competition. Winners will rise to the top and then use automation to scale, then use economies of scale to dominate. The more potential competitors take themselves out of the running, the better chances will be for my kids to rise to the top. The reason they take themselves out is their problem, some will fight unnecessary wars, some will be too corrupt for business, and some will undermine their human capital by teaching it useless skills. It's all good.

It's not a zero sum game, and human wreckage is expensive as hell to clean up.

How do you propose that this is even possible, let alone a good idea? The Ten Commandments include guidance that is downright incompatible with the values enshrined in the constitution.

I mean I acknowledge you've read neither, but be a dear and squirm for me.

The irony: Dear Leader Trump has not only broken most of those commandments, you cheer him on as he continues to break them.

1 & 2. He worships money and loves to see his name and face held high wherever he goes.

3. I'm sure he's taken the name of the Lord in vain plenty of times.

4. He's much more likely to be playing golf on Sunday than going to church (or, for that matter, serving as President like the 44 people before him)

5. Honoring his parents is one of the few commandments he has obeyed.

6. He ordered a botched military strike that led to unnecessary civilian deaths, and if the AHCA passes will sign a bill guaranteed to lead to deaths. He refuses to allow innocent refugees who may die in their home countries. He may not have killed anyone directly, but he has no problems with killing by proxy.

7. Adultery... oh, where to start. He cheated on at least his first two wives (and probably Melania). He has bragged about committing sexual assault and has dozens of women who've accused him of it.

8. He has routinely stiffed contractors; he has taken money from charities for personal use; he's using the presidency to enrich himself. Trump is a thief, he just isn't smashing windows when he steals.

9. Trump bears false witness on a near-daily basis. Hell, just today he made completely false claims about Mika Brzezinski, and that's one of his more modest lies.

10. Trump's entire life revolves around coveting what he doesn't have. Houses, women, power... you name it, he wants it.
