Kentucky Fried Chicken or Kitchen Fresh Chicken... which is it?

heh I made a thread about this a while ago too 🙂

Whatever its name, it's still fatty sh*t that doesn't even taste good most of the time, when I DON'T care about my arteries. Seems to me that it's a lot fattier than it used to be. maybe that's because I'd only tried buffet - and I will admit that the popcorn chicken is good - but their regular stuff is just so greasy I can't enjoy it.
 
Here is an interesting tidbit:

Due to various government acts and trade agreements, Kentucky Fried Chicken was known in Ontario Canada as Scott's Chicken Villa. It was run under license by Scott's Hospitality. Later on after PepsiCorp took over the name was changed to KFC here in Ontario.

PS: my exGF still works there after 15 years and is assistant manager. This is how I learned about KFC.

I wish there was a Popeye's somewhere other than those two and the one that's part of some truck stop in Aurora south of Portland.

Popeye's is some good chicken, boy.
 
ROFL. You don't know ghetto until you've had Kennedy Fried Chicken - the other KFC. Although I think they were replaced by CFC - Crown Fried Chicken.

There are two Kennedy Fried Chickens in my area of The Bronx... mega ghetto... yet I go there occasionally cause they have a pretty good cheesesteak and onion sandwich. Yes.. I've seen Crown Fried Chicken as well...pretty much Kennedy under another name. I've also seen a Kansas Fried Chicken in the south bronx.. nasty...

It actually did originate in Kentucky, hense the name kentucky fried chicken [not kfc by itself or kitchen fresh chicken (which would make no sense)], it's called kentucky fried chicken short form kfc period no exceptions.

Popeye's is regional? They are all over the place in Connecticut now. They are becoming so popular that the KFC's are closing in my area.

Oh, and KFC is called "KFC" now because they are trying to expand into things other than fried chicken. "Fried Chicken" has a negative connotation with overprotective soccer moms.

Besides, I still think that Zaxby's is better.
 
I still like KFC coleslaw, sometimes on the weekend we just get some of that make our mashed potatoes, and hit the Dodge Store for chicken 😛

Cheapo gas station southern fried chicken at it's finest.

Heh.

I prefer it over KFC and Popeye's anyways.

So Cal? Golden Bird & Pioneer Chicken too. Golden's in the don't come here after the sun sets if you're not from here part of the hood. But it's gooooooood. I would risk getting in a fist fight if I was around that area at night and was craving fried chicken. From the countless times I've consumed fried chicken, the chains are pretty meh. And any chicken spot not in a at lest semi hood area is going to suck big time. Some of the best chicken I've ever had was in San Diego, the intersection it was on has been lovingly nick named "the 4 corners of death" The more dangerous the area is, the better the chicken will be, that's just how it goes.

They renamed to "KFC" and stopped referencing "fried" in their marketing. Then they started this "kitchen fresh chicken" thing to make the current generation of youngsters forget they ever had "fried" in their name.

It was quite deliberate.

I read that from a seemingly authoritative source too but when I went to San Diego they still had "Kentucky Fried Chicken" on their buckets for several years. Still do, I think.

Oh, and I still refuse to believe that their grilled chicken isn't fried first and then thrown on a device that makes grill marks on the chicken. That shit is too greasy to be just grilled.

I love KFC when it is made correctly (corporate style).
Problem is here in cent FL, they are franchised, not corporate owned.

We have 2 KFCs in my town, both owned and run by the same franchise, and both as different as night and day from corporate owned KFCs.
You never know what you are going to get, sometimes great chicken, plump and juicy, sometimes dry and flavorless, sometimes so much grease it drips off the chicken.
No consistency, and apparently no standards.

20 years ago we used to have a corporate owned KFC about 20 miles away, that was used for training franchisee's employees the proper way to make KFC chicken.
The chicken there was perfect every time.
But since training wasn't "free", the franchise owners eventually stopped sending their employees for training and the corporate owned location was sold to a franchisee.
Once the franchisee's started using there own employees as trainers, we ended up with the copy of a copy of a copy of a copy syndrome.

We still have a Wendy's corporate training center restaurant 20 miles away, and I always stop there when I am in the area and have time.
The quality/difference in the food is just so remarkable, compared to the franchise stores.
What you get actually looks like the pictures on TV :awe: and tastes so much better than what you get at the franchise locations.
 
KFC here in Ontario are disgusting, even their fries are disgusting. I don't understand how can they go from average to disgusting over the last 20yrs.

Funny enough, KFC in Asia are miles better.
 
Ate there a few days ago and their grilled chicken was dry and tough. The pieces were also very tiny. Just get yourself a 3 pound chicken at Costco for $5. Much more moist, better flavor and bigger pieces. It's startling how much chicken you get for five bucks compared to KFC's five dollar fill up.

You can smother something in oil/butter and still grill it. I remember when KFC came out with their double down sandwhich so people got a kick of looking up all of the KFC nutritional info. KFC's grilled chicken had more sodium content than the friend IIRC

I'm pretty sure it backfired and a lot of people reacted like this OP did. Wouldn't be surprised if the word "fried" reappeared on their buckets and stuff.
