Kensington Flylight $3.88 @ Office Depot

subpar

Senior member
Just came back from my local Office Depot, where they were closing out the Kensington USB Flylights for $3.88 each. Thought it was a good price and picked up a few.

For those of you who purchased an Intel Play QX3 microscope, these things are great for boosting illumination on the 60x and 200x magnification without resorting to an expensive, $500 fiber optic illuminator. Their flexibility is key for positioning the lighting as needed. The light is slightly bluish in tint, but overall the results are quite good.

Hope it helps someone out. As always, YMMV.

This seems like a pretty good deal to me! I'm gonna go to OD and check it out Has anyone else checked out other OD's?

if that's $3.88 with no rebate, then this is a great deal! Much better than the Circuit City deal about a month ago with these for $5 after $15 MIR.

thanks...I'm gonna head over today!

I swung by an OD B&M here in Southern California (Fountain Valley) and they had the lights in stock, but they were still $19.99. No closeout, no rebate, no hot deal. I was bummed.

subpar...where are you and which OD did you receive this deal?

Has anyone else in Southern California seen this deal?

Yeah, I just came back from an OD in SoCal, and the lights rang up at $19.99. Thanks for wasting my time, subpar.

subpar - good suggestion about using this with the QX3. I bought one of these at CC and it's great. I actually use it on my desktop machine in my bedroom since I don't have a light near the machine. I have the Flylight hanging over the monitor and it's great for when I need to read something near the computer.

Crap, sorry about it for people who did not get the clearance price.

I was at the Edgewood Office Depot in PA (1763 S. Braddock Ave., Edgewood, PA 15218; 412-244-8004; Store #0125) on Friday night where they were honestly $3.88. I didn't think it was regional, or even specific for that particular store, but maybe it was. Anyways, I qualified my original post with "YMMV". Maybe I would recommend calling in advance.

I posted 'cause I thought it might help someone out. 🙁

Geeze you guys, quit your whining -

Subpar is right - if you were so desperate to buy at that price, why didn't you call ahead?

Thanks for posting the deal Subpar - there wasn't a way for you to know that it was a regional price.

Whiners: get off ur asses and find some deals instead of crapping on others'...

I didn't see any crappinggoing on here, just the facts, that's all, so maybe you need to pop a prozac there gsalvidar.

I stopped in at the OD in St. Charles, IL, same thing, $19.99. Why didn't I call you ask? Well if I call and they determine it's a pricing error they then have both the opportunity to tell me that AND correct the price meaning the deal is dead for me. Plus it's next door to where I got lunch.

I saw the "YMMV" and took it at face value, so subpar, good deal bro, glad you were able to take advantage of it!

No dice here in madison WI. To bad, I got one flylight at the $20 - $15 MIR, and really like it. Oh well, next time.

--Thanks for posting...did you hit both east and west side locations? I think the one on the west side has a manager that knows of the deals and grabs them himself.
back to the topic of the thread...Just got a new vaio r505 and those lights look good...I think that IBMs set the standard by including a built-in keyboard light. I hate trying to read the keys at night with the light coming from the screen! madalien, you saved me a trip, thanks!
