For example, instead of being called an assasin, hes called "manslayer."

But okay, thats not too bad. Except that they speak like freakin Yoda also!
"Worried about Megumi, that I am."

Can anyone else confirm this?

Every sub I've seen as well as the U.S. version of the manga refer to Kenshin as "Battousai the Manslayer" is that not correct?

I concur. I hated Kenshin because it was way too silly. My brother showed me Samurai X and it became one of my favorite anime.

was the opposite for me. The first OVA drew me in to the series because he's a badass. But I always have a soft spot for the bumbling romantic hero. Kenshin and Vash the Stampede from Trigun are my two all-time favorite bumbling badass heroes :) I own the Director's Cut of Trust/Betrayal (OVA 1), and all 95 episodes on DVD, bought a box set from Discount Anime DVD for $99. Enjoy the series, it was my first and is still my favorite anime.

BladeWalker: haha.. same here. This easily became one of the best anime I have ever watched.

Zugzwang152: Word. I loved Act 4 ~ Jyuuji Kizu ~The Cross-Shaped Wound...

But anyhow, Trust and Betrayal owns all. :D Although Reflections was a close emulation of Trust and Betrayal, I would have liked it much better if the original screenplayer (Masashi Sogo) and character designer (Masahide Yanagisawa) did the project. It was very good, and I can't complain. Yoshida did a wonderful job continuing the series... I know several people who loved Reflections, but I wished Nobuhiro Watsuki was still lead. (Considering the TV series also drifted away from the manga storyline in the 2nd arc..) Then, everyone would know the real ending of Himura Kenshin.

P.S. If anyone has the mangas/scans, please PM me :).

The Kyoto Arc is pretty awesome, the best part of the TV series IMO. Too bad the Revenge Arc didn't make it to the series, it should be much more intense than the Kyoto Arc.

There was also a recap episode that showed some of the fights I believe. I've only seen it in a bad quality .rm file. It never made it to dvd in the US. I can't believe I watched this series in .rm then in vcd, then I bought all the official us dvds even though I stopped watching them after the kyoto arc.

I LOVE RUROUNI KENSHIN... Actually just SAITOU HAJIME is enough for me to buy the whole DVD and Manga of this series....

There are 95 eps... Be careful on buying those HK disc, from what I heard they are pirated... Better stick with Media blasters original R1 DVDs. Also The story has 2 OVAs and 1 Movie... Take note though that with all the animation you are still missing the Jinchuu arc which can only be found in the manga book. It was touched briefly in the last OVA Seisouhen but trust me it is so far from that and the OVA was not good enough of an ending.

What else? Characters were based on real people... Mostly coming from the Shinsengumi (elite samurai force for the shogun commissioned by the Aizu clan)

Aoshi - Hijikata
Saitou - Saitou
Sanosuke - Sagara
Kanryuu- Kanryuu

plus there were Okita, Kondou, Shinpachi...

even Kenshin was based on a real character but I forgot who. Unlike the Rurouni though this real character was vocal about his views and fought for them in court and also campaigned in Japan... Will post if I can find where I read that.

Well it would be a SIZABLE amount of money...

The OVAs came out with a special box set... you can get them for 45-60 USD

1st season boxset 85-120 USD

2nd season boxset 85-130 USD

No 3rd season boxset yet...

the DVD's when bought alone brand new, lowest I found was around 17USD.

Use a dvd price search engine before you buy. My favorite place to buy dvds from is deepdiscountdvd and rightstuf anime.

Good luck!

Doubt you got legit copies for that price.

There are 95 episodes, 2 OVAs and a movie.
Download them.

Well they do exist you just have to dig around. Whoever wants this series since it is LICENSED, please just go and buy it, instead of just downloading it. Coz that's piracy and buying anime is a way to show support so that we can get more quality anime. It took me a while to collect this series, yes and it burned a hole in my pocket but it was worth it.

The movie is the same: 17-29 USD

If you don't want to shell out that much money, understandly, go buy 2nd hand dvds. Or at least buy the 1st and 2nd season, which I think is a necessity for this series. It's the Tokyo and Kyoto arc.

Thanks.

the reason for the stupid "that i am" is because of the way kenshin ends his sentences. rather than the current "desu", kenshin uses the polite archaic form, "de gozaru (yo)". however, it is not because of the way kenshin speaks, but of the too literal translations. it gets very annoying ...

btw those who like the kenshin historical context should check out "peace maker kurogane" thought the story in that moves rather slow, it is still enjoyable to most.
