I'd like to get a new motherboard and an Athlon64 today from a P4 system. I have 2 Sata drives in a raid0 as the boot drive. Can I just set it up the same way for raid0 on the new motherboard to make it work? Cause that's 300gigs I'm not tryin' to back up there. Or what would be a good solution here. Thanks.

This might be a good opportunity to backup all your important data on DVDs :)

I've never done RAID so I don't know if there's an easy solution for you.

I think you'll have to recreate. It might be possible for you to clone it all onto one single HD if you have one that big.
Setup a new RAID array in a new system and clone it back over.
It just *might* be possible, though I doubt it.

IF the two boards use the same RAID controller (eg, nForce, SiI), and they are roughly at the same revision, you might get away with it. If the system is smart enough to scan the disks and work it out you are away.

The thing to do is swap the disks in and see if the new system immediately spots the array. If it doesn't, DON'T try to recreate the stripe set as you'll most likely trash everything. Just power it off and look for the backup option as described above.

Yeah, they won't have the same controller, so it won't work, you'll have to back up everything you wanna keep..it's best to get a PCI raid controller that you can just move to the next system, if you switch platforms often, and don't want to lose your raid array..

Even with a PCI controller, you still get different probs [maybe magnified] if you change systems.
Because chipset/hardware drivers etc

I just checked out the asus site and both mb's use the South Bridge raid controller for sata. Is there hope?

I've done this before but I was using 2 identical motherboards. If you're going to try it, make sure that you set up the stripe size the same as the original board.

One will use an Intel south bridge and the other a VIA bridge, so no.
