keeping programs from starting up

like limewire, etc... I used to have 2000 Pro and it was easy just to go to task mgr and disable startup. How do I do it in XP?

Well short of downloading software, just use msconfig, type that in RUN, then select start-up or whatever.

Also in the startup folder in the start menu, I don't think msconfig touches those.

oh thank god. I forgot that it was msconfig. that's the one I always used. So much crap that had to load and then crashed. Should be good now. THanks.

Download somethign called WinPatrol, free software, that lets you see what actually starts and you can disable it. You can also add things you want to start at startup.

It allows much more control of startup programs, and unlike msconfig, you can delete items you don't want.
