that's what i do in california. i usually keep the fan about 6" from the case tho and point it at the case. do you point your box fan towards the case (to push in new air) or away (to evacuate hot air)?

I once saw a quakecon mod contest finalist that had a big comercial fan built into the side of a case. Verry simmilar. The thing to remember is with more surface area on the fan blades you need less rpm and thus less noise.

yeah, but even then the fan noise is quite considerably more then the normal case fans you can get. i have a box fan like that, and it's too loud for me so i just use AC.

then again, what's loud for me, could be quiet for someone else.
