if you're getting really slow downloads it might be because of your firewall (if you have any). I tested it getting about 30-40k with a firewall up, then "demilitarizing" it and getting 100+k afterwards.

I solely use BT for downloading free anime fansubs, as do probably most of the posters here.

Great for linux distros, too..

Yep, I just downloaded slackware last night and I've downloaded many game demos with it.

Great for downloading shows from taper-friendly bands.

yup, that's what i use bt for. and i eventually buy the series that i like. not perfect, but eh, i try to do my part :p

but i leave it on when i goto sleep so i dun have to worry about taking up bandwidth. i usually leave up my download window for at least few hours after download completion. since i always leech, i should give a bit back to the community right? ;)

same here, i opened up the ports that BT uses to go to my LAN address and my d/l speeds have skyrocketed! i'm talking 1-2kb/sec to 100+ kb/sec now

yeah this really sucks, i have a huge downstream but 16k up... i'm downloading a gig or so file, and no matter what i set it to upload, it always eats up the max upload i have! makes surfing the net impossible...

I use this one, usually i can cap my upload to 5k and download at 100-150kb ( which is about my max on this dsl line) If I let it upload fully at 20-22kb, it kills my download speed. I usually just upload slow while i am downloading and then leave it up and see for a while at full upload to make up for it

that's the client i use, but no matter what i set my upload at (i've had it set to 1kb w/ 1 max upload) it goes all the way up to 10 or 14

I've tried every single BT client out there and burst! works the best for me. I get consistant dl speeds and the ul speeds never surpass the limits that I set.

Hes talking about preventing it from SATURATING the upstream. Its not like he wants to stop sharing, just keep it from using so much upstream that it chokes the downstream. This can be accomplished by using the experimental client and setting it to 1-2k lower than your maximum upload speed. That way he can still web browse while leeching at least.
