Not to change your entire plans, but think of how awesome carrying a LIVE Tuna and Salmon would be only to slice them up uppon arrival and having the freshest sashimi out in the wilderness!
-BOMB!- me thinks.

Haha this is awesome!
I would think that the pot you'll need to boil it + ice will be sufficient. Make sure you put the butter in it also, otherwise it will goo all over.

No one is suggesting you don't eat lobster. but lugging it for a day - out of water & half alive - in a back pack - is kind of cruel. the fact you're doing it to make yourself look clever in the eyes of your hiking companions is pathetic.

Peta is that way ------>

For coffee I would bring a Moka pot. You can get them in a variety of sizes and work great.

When I go backpacking I prefer really small lobsters, sometimes called crayfish. Plus you don't have to carry them, they are already there waiting to be pulled out of the river.

Yes, percolator. It's only a few extra ounces. Great idea on the whipped cream.

Dr Pizza, this is awesome.

I dunno if this will help, but here are some suggestions that will add weight, and help to outdo the last time maybe.

1.) I think some Asparagus goes really well with steak and lobster. Bring Asparagus because it's delicious.

2.) Are you bringing with a cast iron skillet to cook on? Cause if you cook your steak in the bacon grease on the skillet, it will be even more delicious than normal.

3.) Same is also true for Asparagus!

4.) Bring some heavy cream and a whisk, make your own whipped cream for the pie and ice cream ....

5.) As far as the coffee goes? Are you bringing a percolator, for REAL coffee? Or that crappy instant crap? do you have a hand powered portable grinder? After all, fresh ground is always better than preground!

I love your lobster dinner idea.

If for some reason it doesn't work out, think about taking a couple of empty spam cans, make lobster salad and fill the cans. Try to convince your friends that Spam now comes in tasty new lobster flavor.
